How long from the time you called to the day you had surgery did it take?

It depends on your insurance and your surgeons protocol. I went to my introductory meeting in mid November 2015 and had my first appointment on December 4 2015. My insurance required a 6 month medically supervised pre-op weight loss period. They allowed the 2 months I had seen my PCP just prior to count so I had surgery on 3/28/2016.

First appt on December 11, 2016. Surgery February 22, 2017. My insurance didn't require any supervised diet. It's totally dependent on your insurance and your surgeon's requirements and schedule!

It took about one year from my first initial phone call. My insurance required nothing, but the surgeon wanted psych evaluation, consult with a nutritionist and one instructional post op living class. If I didn't have to travel for each appointment it probably would have been about a 6 month wait.

My insurance required 6 nutrition consults, 1 per month, on top of all other requirements. I did everything immediately, so it literally was a 6 month process.

For me it was about 2 years from my first visit to the weight loss clinic til my surgery. but I had to wait to be able to switch my insurance to a plan that covered it. But if you count from the time I went back after switching insurance it took about 7 months. (the extra time was my own procrastinating)

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

For me it took 3 months. My insurance required 6 months of recorded weights not 6 months of supervised weight loss. I was able to get them from primary care and specialist visits I had been to.

I did call the insurance company and they emailed me a copy of the section of their policy on WLS, that is the best thing...so you know what your individual requirements are. The surgeon will have requirements as well.

I attended the mandatory seminar at the end of April 2016. First surgeon appointment, May 11, 2016. Surgery August 23, 2016. My insurance did not have any kind of wait period, but my center required 3 months of visits with my team there before they would submit me for surgery.

Keep on losing!

My whole process took less than 3 months.

I called on 8/4/2016; my first appointment was 8/16/2017, and I was sleeved on 10/12/2017. Contributing factors that helped were that I did my research and started changes in how I ate and what I ate before I had my first appointment. I did every thing I possibly could before surgery to not have any surprises and it worked. Surgery, recovery and this journey have been seamless and I would do it again in a heartbeat!!

Just bear in mind, everyone's process and most importantly, insurance requirements, are different.

Best of luck!

I called end of January 2016 to get signed up for the seminar. After my 6 month diet, psych evaluation and EGD, I had surgery September 12, 2016. So for me it was about 9 months total. I'm sure it seems like a long time but it went by rather quickly.
