Opinions needed!

I'm 31 days post op (woooo) and I was cleared for soft foods (I was told anything but nuts, seeds and raw fruits and veggies.) So my mother in law makes this thing similar to spinach pie, but thinner. When can I try Phyllo? Is it considered a grain or bread? I'm planning on asking my dietician but that won't be for a week and a half

Phyllo is a bread, it's made with flour. At 31 days out you CAN eat it, but it's high in carbs and doughy in your tummy just like all bread, so personally I wouldn't touch it. Fill your new tummy with protein and good carbs. I waited until at least 3 months out before I even considered eating any bread-type food. I don't eat grains or bread at all anymore since about month 5, but that's me , and I don't miss it at all anymore!

Please don't eat filo. Its a refined carb plus fat. Plus its likely to trigger carb cravings. Stay away. Trust me. Diane S

It's a processed carb that won't help you reach your goals. So I wouldn't bother eating it until you reach your goal.

Thanks for the responses. I haven't planned on eating it. But I we curious about it. The filling is really healthy so I open it and eat the filling. So I was more so concerned if I accidentally got a piece.

I also was told once I'm on regular diet that nothing is off limits, just portion control. So with that obviously comes picking and choosing what you really want and only having a bite or two.

Sadly, just because we can eat things doesn't mean that we should eat them. I can eat ice cream every day.. but doing so won't help me reach my goals!

Respectfully, "nothing is off limits, just portion control" is absolutely CRAP advice for someone who's had bariatric surgery. Moderation and portion control got most of us absolutely nowhere before WLS; that kind of advice is usually put together by people who've never been morbidly obese in their lives.

During the weight loss phase, straight carbs-- even good ones-- should absolutely be off limits. Bread, pasta, cake, cookies, NONE of it.
