How long before you could return to work?

I'm a clinical psychologist so it's a pretty sedentary job. I was thinking a week or ten days.

What was your experience and what had your surgeon advised?

TIA for any feedback.

I had surgery on Monday and went back to work on Thursday. I have a sedentary job and came in a little late that day, as I recall. Everyone is different and I was fortunate in that I had little to no pain after surgery. A week might be about right for you. Good luck!

Two weeks is standard advice, but it really varies by the person and how extensive the surgery is. I think you've said you had a lap band? Is it being removed at the same time?

I was really pretty much fine after a week, but still got tired easily for another 2-3 weeks.

Yes I had the lap band but it was removed about four years ago. Should have gotten a revision to VSG then but I really was in no mood to pursue anything else at that point . As they say, 'hindsight is 20/20.' I think I'll play it safe and take two weeks off. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for your feedback.

In theory this means that your recovery will be easier than someone doing removal + VSG all in one fell swoop!

Taking 2 weeks seems safest, especially if you have a job where you could go back earlier if you ended up feeling amazing sooner.

I work a desk job and took 2.5 weeks off. I was able to get up and around, but I was absolutely exhausted and in no shape to do things that required a lot of brain power.

I had high hopes to return after 2 weeks but due to incision pain and major fatigue I couldn't. I returned after 4 weeks, still with some fatigue. I also have a sedentary job as a nursing sup in an office.

I have a desk job and was out 7 work days. Probably could have gone back sooner but I was enjoying the time off! My surgeon advised 2 - 3 weeks, but when I spoke the PA two weeks after the surgery and told her I was already back, she said that was great.

I'm a desk jockey. Surgery Tuesday, home Wednesday. Friday worked most of the day from home. Back in the office Monday but did leave at 3 rather than 5 - fighting the anesthesia rebound - I have a tough time with anesthesia and it affects me for a while after surgery. Tuesday, we back to the grind. But I had 0 complications and no pain. Everyone is different. You may want to put off seeing patients for a week or 10 days but if there is charting/desk stuff you can do, I think you'll be fine.

Keep on losing!

Y'all are making me feel like a wimp.

I was off work for 6 weeks, but could have used one more. I couldn't sit upright due to nerve/compression pain on my incisions, but besides that, I was utterly exhausted for almost 8 full weeks. I couldn't brain, let alone motor-function.
