Today is day five of my pre-op diet. It's been a beautiful five days. My biggest fear of this entire process was the pre-op diet and in my mind I believe I gave in to way to much fear.
We went to Chicago yesterday to take my step-daughter to the airport to fly back home and had the biggest challenge of my five days. Her plane got delayed so my mother-in-law (who has alzheimers) wanted to go out to dinner. She doesn't eat a whole lot of the time so I wanted to make sure she got a good meal. We went to Applebees and it was a very big challenge to find something I could eat. I read through every item word for word on the menu and probably took 20 minutes to order. I think I did very well in my decision and ended up having the Shrimp Spinach salad, no bacon and no dressing. It has 7 shrimp, red onions, red peppers, slivered almonds and the spinach. It wasn't nearly enough (or so I thought) however when I got home I wasn't hungry at all. It's amazing to me how difficult it is to find something decent on a menu. Only the beginning of a long journey.
I'm now down 12 pounds total and it's amazing how much different I feel already. 6 days until we leave for Dallas and 9 days until surgery. So excited and looking forward to surgery and the beginning of my new adventure.
