8 days before my "new life" begins...

Feb 07, 2012

Hi!

My surgery is officially in 8 days and I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this. The journey had taken so long that it was hard to imagine an end point; however, it now feels like it's happening so fast. Funny how our minds work, isn't it?

I have never had any kind of surgery, so to have a surgery of this magnitude is quite scary. I have no idea what to expect. All I know is that I have faith everything will work out. I have had this addiction for over 20 years and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I know this is not a miracle cure; I am going to have to work my big butt off, but you know what? I am so ready for this! I am willing to endure whatever I have to to become healthy and have the life I have always dreamed of.

I had my last appointment yesterday, which was my pre-op assessment. It wasn't a big deal. I had an ECG, bloodwork done and met with the anesthesiologist and nurse. It is all so real now. In 8 days, I go under the knife and change my life forever.

I am now on day 21 of opti-fast and have another 5 days to go. I have lost over 30 pounds now, my feet are no longer swollen, my BP has went down significantly, I have had endless energy and I can now sit comfortably behind the steering wheel! My first NSV and I have not even had surgery yet. I feel like I am off to a good start!

I have actually enjoyed being on opti-fast but if I can give any advice for those about to start opti or will in the future: do not wait any longer than 4 or 4.5 hours between shakes. I have made that mistake 3 times and I have been sick all three times. I get sweaty, feel hunger to the point of vomiting and have to make one right then and there and proceed to sit down until I feel better. I think that is what's called hypoglycemia, where blood sugar becomes too low.

Anyways, I just wanted to check in. I hope you are all doing wonderful :)
