8th post - Last appointment before surgery

Feb 25, 2012

I had my 1 week pre op appointment yesterday.  If it wasn’t my last appointment before surgery, I would have rescheduled.  The roads were terrible and most schools were closed due to the snow.  Anyway, I was there half hour early and got right in, due to all the cancelations.  How appointment went…

1.      Since I was early, I ordered my 2 week post op liquid diet. The nutritionist helped me gather it together.

2.      Nurse called for me while I was paying my order.  She got my weight (down 10lbs this month).  Then took my vitals and asked if I had any problems on the protein diet they had me on.  (Nope, I have been doing well) and she asked if any of my meds had changed.

3.      Matt the PA for Dr. K came in next.  I liked him a lot.  He had a good sense of humor and was really nice.  He again went over my meds, then checked my neck, chest and back with his stethoscope.  Next, he had me lay down and showed me on my stomach where they would make the lap incisions.  (Six in all. Five real small ones and one on the right side that looked like it would be about 1 ½ in. wide.  The bigger one is where they would pull my stomach out.)  Matt then went on to describe how when I woke up from surgery, I would feel nauseous.  And what medication they would give me for that and pain.  He also gave me discharge orders for after surgery.  (I loved that they gave them now, when I can read and understand them!  I hate when they give you that kind of stuff when you leave the hospital and you’re so drugged you don’t have a clue what they are really saying.)

4.      Then it was on to have final labs drawn.  Matt said everything was looking good from their side and the only thing that would prevent the surgery would be if they found anything wrong with my liver. (Which I don’t expect.)  I am now on a short countdown to DS day.
