6th week post-op

Apr 13, 2012

Tough couple of weeks as far as weight loss is concerned.  A couple of days after I weighed in for week four my weight went up 1.4 lbs.  I really wasn’t concerned as this seems to be my trend.  I gain a little then about two days later I lose it plus more.  The problem this time was I didn’t lose it again until today.  That being said, the amount I gained this time is the only part I lost today.

The question is why?  I’m not sure, but I have some theories.  First let me say what I know isn’t the cause.  I am not eating too many carbs, as I have been keeping them between 3 and 35 and average in the 20’s.  I don’t cheat, not even a little.  I eat mostly chicken, sausage, eggs and cheese.  I throw in a protein drink every few days and a couple of times a week I will have some protein chips.  I really like the chips, but they have too many carbs to eat every day.

Now back to why?  It could be…I am only getting in 60 to 80 proteins a day.  I am also still struggling with getting in water.  I drink anywhere from 20oz to 54oz a day, with the average somewhere around 38oz to 40oz.  I have never been one to drink a lot of liquid.  I was up to 64oz before surgery.  I worked on preparing myself for drinking that much.  It doesn’t seem to have helped.  I get full and can actually hear the water sloshing around after I drink what I feel is a lot.  Anyway I am still having issues with going to the bathroom.  I realize this could be from not drinking enough water.  I will go for a few days without any problems, then nothing for three or four days.  I also believe this has to do with not getting enough fat.  It is such a balancing act!!  The doctor’s office said to keep calories at about 900.  That is really hard to do.  I have been eating about 1100 and still not getting in all my protein.  I really prefer to eat my protein instead of drinking it.  What I eat really doesn’t allow for added protein, which sounds gross to me.  But I may simply have to change what I’m doing to get the results I need.

I am doing some exercise.  I ride my recumbent bike about three times a week.  I have done some light 5# weights, which feel more like twenty pounds to me. Lol.  I have also taken to jogging in place for 1 minute intervals several times in the evenings.  I am really REALLY out of shape and this lets me sit and rest in between them.  My rowing machine is finally starting to get a little use once again also.

Conclusion, I need to drink more water!!  I have also tweaked my iron in the hopes of having more energy (my iron has always been very low).  Hopefully this will up the amount of time I can exercise.  I may need to go back to the protein liquid diet to jumpstart things again.  I simply need to stay focused on what I know to do and do it.  What I don’t want to do is compare myself with others who are losing large amounts, because most often they have much higher BMI’s then I do.  Besides, this isn’t about racing someone else; this is about me trying to become as healthy and fit as I can be.
