Not much to tell. I've been researching the various WLS options for about 5 years. I first decided on the lapband but the surgeon's office sort of imploded. He and the other physcian in the office had a difference of opinion and disolved the practice. It took me another year to find another physcian that I felt really cared about his patients and it wasn't just about $$$. I decided before having the surgery I would try to do it the "normal" way by dieting, getting a personal trainer, joining not 1 but 2 gyms to instill variety, seeing a counselor, and getting a nut. So why did I fail? I tore my meniscus in both knees while rowing and exercising. This meant surgery and PT and a whooping 30 pound weight gain. On top of that my hypothyriodism kicked in and fatigue, hair loss, and insomia joined the party.
After speaking with my SO and my children I decided to have the surgery. I then spoke with my PCMs and he was very supportive. He said I either pay now or pay later. He isn't a bariatric surgeon but he knows it isn't the easy road. So I decided to pay now while I'm still relatively healthy and young. BEFORE any additional co-morbidities become uninvited guest. So, since I had been lurking for years, I knew what I needed to accomplish prior to seeing the surgeon. I had everything but the psych eval completed before my initial visit. I'm now waiting for insurance approval.
