I am sure that my story is similar to everyone else. I have always had to work to keep my weight in check. When I was in high school I was not big but I certainly wasn't small either. My mothers side of the immediate family (like my mom, aunt, grandma and sister) are all very small. My fathers side of the family is on the heavier side of the spectrum. He spent most of my life riding me about my weight and calling me names if I let it slip a little.

It wasn't until started having children that my weight spiraled out of control. When i was pregnant the first time in 2006 I was really sick so I only gained two lbs total. After she was born the weight just piled on. Then I got pregnant with my second daughter, I was not as sick so It was easy for me to gain and keep the 28 pounds. After she was born I started to work out and tried this diet and that, but nothing seemed to work. I felt helpless because no matter how healthy I ate or how much i exercised, I was  not able to loose anything. In fact, I gained more.

At that point I thought that I needed to contact my doctor and see if there may be some medical reason that I could not shed the weight. And of course they tested my thyroid and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and hashimoto's disease. I was referred to an endocrinologist and they were able to steady the weight but even up until this point I have not been able to take it off.

So, here I am, 28 and overweight. I am ready to start my new life. I am ready to use my VSG as a tool to get me back to where I want to be.
