14 weeks - hair loss!!

Sep 19, 2016

My hair is falling out!! ????  I knew it would happen and tried to prevent it with nutrients and vitamins.  I have very fine, thin hair anyway.  I have a hair appt on Friday and I'm thinking about just cutting it off.  I'm not trying to be dramatic but I'm concerned after the hair loss phase is over my hair won't look nice at a mid length, possibly too stringy.

If you have thin, fine hair?  What did you do?  How long did you lose your hair?

Back to normal - week 11

Aug 27, 2016

My life has returned back to normal.  No pain or uncomfortableness.  I'm losing weight about 1 lb a week, but I'm also losing inches.  I've lost about 25 lb since surgery.

I'm really glad that I had this surgery.  It makes me feel in control of my life again.

4 weeks post op

Jul 09, 2016

Eating real food feels great!!  Tonight I made egg plant Parmesan for the family, it is nice to sit down and eat the same thing again.  Yes, I only get 1/4 cup but I'm full.  I am still working on eating slowly, that is my most difficult task.

I've lost 15 lbs since my surgery!!  I'll be happy to get that 1-2 lb a week weight loss.  I was a "lighter weight" when I started, so I was told it can take more time for thE weight to come off.

My struggles:

  • Eating slowly
  • Taking my meds in the evening
  • Struggling with energy levels

My successes:

  • drinking my required water
  • getting enough protein
  • Getting enough rest

My goal this next month is to start working out, if I can find the energy.

Cake

Jun 29, 2016

Ok I am almost three weeks post op and I had a very small bite of cake.  Ohhhh it tasted so good!!  But I didn't indulge any more, knowing I'm still in weight loss mode.  Surprisingly my pouch accepted it with no problem!

Day 5 - Post Op

Jun 16, 2016

The first week has been full of many ups and downs.  I had surgery in Mexico and I went alone!  Yes I went alone!   I've been to Mexico many times so I wasn't afraid or nervous.  Until I was in the surgery room!! ????

When I woke up I immediately regretted the surgery - the finality of it all hit me like a ton of bricks. Fast forward 5 days... I feel good.  I don't regret it anymore and glad I chose this path.  I was a low BMI but I struggled with my weight.  My family has a short longevity due to heart disease and diabetes, which is why I made the decision to make this lifestyle change.

Back to day 5 -  I've been focusing on getting in my liquids every 15 minutes.  I'm eating broth for dinner, juice smoothie for breakfast and different juice smoothie for lunch.  Today I indulged on a fudge pop.  I couldn't eat it all, but it was a delicious treat from my past life.

I'm cramping up a bit, I'm guessing it is due to lack of minerals and vitamins.  I receive my Bariatric vitamins tomorrow!!  I really need them!

Do you need to poop? This is how...

Jun 15, 2016

I'm day 4 post op.  Many people are constipated due to the pain reliever medications and anesthesia.  My advice for future VSGers...

1) Stop taking narcotic pain relievers when possible -  switch to regular Tylenol, if your doctor recommends.

2) Drink fluids every 15 minutes and walk

3) Add green juice (Naked Green Machine) or prune juice. (4 -6 oz) to get things moving.

4) Use a suppository - your body needs extra lubrication in this area as you aren't getting the amount of liquids you normally would have to help flush the system.

5) Add a source of fiber or Miralax to your morning drinks to help with daily movements!

Always remember enemas are an option but this got things moving really fast!  I'm not a doctor but this is solid advice to get out of the constipation stage!
