Best wishes and extra prayers for smooth surgery and recovery. A positive mental attitude is your best preparation! You'll do great with this life-saving tool!

Kulia, I was and am now a big water drinker too. But what I discovered right after surgery was that water felt like a lead brick in my new tummy. It was hard to drink more than a sip, and it HURT.. and in fact for the first month it actually would come right back up. But after about 2 months, I was finally able to drink it again. I drink nearly 60-80 oz a day. My nutritionist and doctor said the reaction to water immideately post op is quite normal, though they don't understand why it happens. I think this is the reason so many people have trouble getting in all that is required. I could drink anything but water just fine (lived on Crystal Light for the whole time) in that first two months. Now I just drink water except for first thing in the morning. I still cannot have it as the first thing that hits my tummy in the am. So I guess the answer is it is more a physical problem than a mental one. But it does get better with time. Tami

Kulia, I envy you!!!! I wish I could have had this procedure available to me when I was your age. You are one lucky lady. My husband and I both had our open rny's at Pacific Bariatric with Dr. Rumsey. We both have the highest respect for all of the dr's and the staff there. We have lost a combined total of 315 lbs so far!!! We both wish you all the very best on your surgery and recovery. May all of your sweetest dreams come true.

Kulia, Hi! I just saw your post on the message board, and I wanted to let you know that I understand how you feel. I was also told I was too young to be taking such a drastic measure. I reminded these people I was also too young to be facing fertility problems, arthritis under my knee caps, shortness of breath, etc. I am 24 years old and I had an open rny July 8th, 2002. Even when I was dealing with post-op pain I did not once regret my decision. I am working at creating a better life for myself, and this is just the tool to help me do that. If you need anything feel free to e-mail me. [email protected]. :)
