Back home from the hospital, and all is well. My nurses all said I was a model prisoner--I mean patient. I had very little discomfort even though I have a 7.5 inch incision with 27 staples. I would have gone home on Saturday instead of yesterday, but my doc was being cautious and insisted that I have a radiograph to test for leaks first. At the military hospital, radiologists only do emergencies on the weekend, so I had to stay for a few extra days. My doc also made me stay NPO for that time (he is extra cautious!), so here is the deal. When I left home on Wednesday morning to go into surgery , I weighed 235. Since I was pumped full of fluids (more than 5 liters during surgery alone!) while I was in the hospital, I fully expected to GAIN weight. A lot of people do--it's the fluids. Instead, I weighed myself when I got out of bed this morning, and I weighed 221.5!!! That's a loss of 13.5 pounds in less than one week. Of course, I only started on liquids yesterday. Still--even my 13 year old daughter says I look thinner already. Feels great!!! It was tough having both my hubby and my best friend and angel gone for my surgery (he is away with the military, and she was taking care of her mom), but I made it. I have my staples removed next Monday--again, the holiday is keeping them in a bit longer, but since I split my gall bladder incision open 13 years ago because I had the staples removed too early, I would rather err on the side of caution. Well, here I am on the other side. I will never forget the great nurses who took care of me (especially the ICU nurses), my wonderful and incredibly CUTE surgeon, and the radiologist who might still be wearing my vomit after yesterday's radiograph (she was mean--she deserved it!). For now, it's just great to be home with my kids....
