1 Week Post Op!

Jan 04, 2010

Happy New Year!!! I am one week post op! I can't believe I really had the surgery and I have so many mixed emotions.

I went in for surgery on Monday, December 28, 2009.  I was so nervous.  My surgery was 8 hours long. They used a divinci robot to assist with the surgery.  It was done laprascopically, thank the Lord. When I woke up from surgery, my throat was so soar, and my feet were in soooo much pain. I mean they were swollen and tingling, and had stabbing pains and numbness.  They said it was most likely because of the position I was in during surgery and also because I was suffering from neuropathy in my hands and feet prior to surgery. My stomach hurt as well, but  O MY GOSH, my feet were the worst.

Before I went in for surgery, Darryl and Thalia both called to pray with me. Kevin took some "before" photos.  Robert and Shiniece sent their love.  When I woke up from surgery, Kevin, Robert, Thalia, Don, & Keisha were there. Yolanda had been there but left.  I was sooo out of it though.  All I can remember is crying about how much pain I was in.

I stayed in the hospital from Monday until Friday, January 1, 2010.  During that time, I had a catheter in me & a drainage tube in my stomach.  I was also on an IV pain pump.  In the beginning, my diet was 1 oz of fluid per hour.  Then on Wednesday, after my GI xray, I was allowed to drink 4 oz of fluid an hour.  On Thursday afternoon, I was allowed to have some sugar free jello 2 times. On Friday, I had jello that morning and then when I was discharged, I was able to have a full liquid diet, which I am currently still on. They also took the catheter and drainage tube out.  Boy, when he pulled that tube out of my stomach it felt like part of my insides were gone. I started crying.  I think it hit me that I had the surgery and I had to go home! LOL!  Boy I was glad to be home though and finally be able to take a shower!!!

I have been having some crying spells, a lot of gas and diarrhea.  I have to change the bandages were the drainage tube was a lot throughout the day.  I have a little rash on my back from the binder.  Iam still very soar. One thing is, I don't have to take 5 needles and two pills for my diabetes right now.  Praise the Lord!!! I

I go for my follow-up this Thursday.
