Does this band make me look fat?

Mar 24, 2007

I had my surgery March 21st. They placed a 4cc lapband in me. I got to stay overnight because my surgery was in the late morning. I was so grateful because I got pain meds in my IV every 4 hours and I wasn't ready for my 2 "spirited" kids. LOL It was a vacation for me (hell of a way to get a vacation huh?)

I am on Pureed foods today and loving every bit of it. Clear liquids is just not my thing. I am so surprised at the feeling full so easily. It's wonderful. I will never again look at Pizza and wonder how many slices it is gonna take to satisfy me. Back in the day I could throw down 4 slices if I wanted.

Dr. Jean-Baptiste and his staff were just awesome. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. My mother is looking into lap band surgery and that's where I want to send her.

Now that I have this tool in place.... I feel so relieved and ready to take on the world. Nothing is going to stop me from attaining my weight goal and keeping it this time. For the first time in my life I don't see morbid obesity as the rest of my life. Ik now what that would have been like... I watched my mother suffer all these years.

Approved for surgery!

Mar 06, 2007

I got my approval for Lap-Band surgery yesterday and I am flying high!

I am more excited than nervous to continue on this journey. I have the full support of my parents and my husband. March 21, 2007 will be my sugery date. I am so happy that I got all the pre-approval/pre-surgery testing done and over with. I felt like I was in a doctor's office filling out the same information every other day for a whole month!

Colonoscopy

Feb 05, 2007

Well i finally got that out of the way. It made me feel crappy LOL!
They did find a polyp in my colon and diverticulosis. I am kind of young for that but oh well.  I am just waiting on the biopsies now.

Next stop... psychologist

Sleep Study/Endoscopy

Jan 30, 2007

Last night I had my sleep study... and here I thought I would actually get a good night sleep since I was away from my kids... HA! It was the worst sleep ever! I am very curious as to the findings. I can't believe that I don't have sleep apnea because I am extremely fatigued always and it seems abnormal.

The endoscopy was a breeze (I actually got some rest lol). I was surprised I have some gastritis a few polyps and a small hernia.

Now tomorrow I have to treat myself to some proper food because Thursday is prep day for the colonoscopy.... that means clear liquids all day! blech

Doctors Galore

Jan 24, 2007

Today I had Pulmonologist and Cardiologist appointments. My heart is good and ready for surgery. I do need a sleep apnea test though. No surprise as I am sure I have sleep apnea.

Next week.... Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. Yippee I get to do them on separate days because my insurance won't allow them on the same day.

Tests

Jan 14, 2007

My blood work came back all ready and it was all normal. I also had my gallbladder ultrasound done. I have all my tests set up for January so I can get the ball rolling. My husband wants me to cancel all of them until I have my psych eval and get an answer from the insurance company. I am ready for this surgery if insurance covers it or not. This constant up and down in weight is just no good for my health anymore and I am done with it. In the past few years I have been everything from a size 4 to a size 16. Finding Petite plus size clothi

I remember a button I had as a kid that said "I'm not fat, I'm just short for my weight"

MY JOURNEY

Jan 05, 2007

I am a 35 year old mom of 2. I wasn't always obese. I was a very athletic and strong kid. Once I became an adult my weight issues began. I have been battling with weight for 15 years now. I was a lifetime member of Weight Watchers which was short-lived as all of my weight loss successes have been. Of course the roller-coaster drops you off at a higher weight than when you began.

I would like to have Lap-Band surgery so that I can have the tool I need to feel satiated when I eat.

My family medical history is just out of control. I am a cancer survivor 1 year out. I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma last year when I had a mole removed so I would look nice in a bridesmaid dress.
My mother is a survivor of Ovarian Cancer. She is morbidly obese with high blood pressure. I see myself sliding down the same path of obesity that she did. Her whole side of the family is riddled with obesity, heart problems and type 2 Diabetes. I would like to prevent some of those problems now that I am getting older and my weight is increasing as I am aging. I am not at my heaviest right now since I managed to lose 25 pounds on Weight Watchers (yet again) a year and a half ago. However, despite my success, I gained it all back and then some within 3 months.

I go to my PCP next monday for a check-up and get some tests ordered and then I have my first consultation scheduled with Dr. Jean-Baptiste on Tuesday.
I am excited in the prospect but have a deep down feeling that my insurance won't cover it because my BMI is too low. 168 pounds on someone who is 4'10" is not very cute. LOL
