First Plateau

Jun 06, 2009

My first week of minimal weight loss...only 1/2  pound.
Guess it was going to happen eventually, just hoped it wouldn't be so soon.

Special K - Vanilla Almond...too much sugar

May 31, 2009

I've had it easy...only once eating too much & puking and another time drinking while eating causing foamings.
Figured if I avoided the "junk" I could avoid dumping...at least I'm not brave to "take a chance"...

Well...today I had my first Dumping experience today.
Should have checked "My Plate" website to find out the sugar content in my former brand of "hea;thy" cerial.
I've had the cerial in a tupperware box for so many months that I didn't remember the nutrional components.
I figured that it can't be that bad - afterall it's Special K.
WRONG...I had cramps within the hour, sweats...puked & runs almost simulationously.

WHEW...good thing I didn't eat much...can't imagine how horrible the reaction would have been if I ate something like what I would have had "pre-op"...   Definately no

8 week post op

May 09, 2009

Hi
My f/u appt with UCD to review the blood tests & my progress @ 8 weeks post op has gone well.
I'm just a bit short on calcium (not been taking enough pills) and Vit D is low.
All else went great
I have to start taking 1000 mg Vit D.  and be sure to get 1200 Calcium
Also, now I have to work towards getting more like 64 oz fluids and not just 48 oz
I get to increase my exercise to moderate & more strengh training so I'm going to curves starting now.
I also thrilled to know I can have fruits like oranges, strawberries, etc.

Post Op - staple removal 3-25-09

Mar 25, 2009

Hurray....
the metal is gone !
Now I look forward to Friday which is day 15 and I can introduce foods such as cottage cheese, then the next day will be tuna fish...and pureed chicken soup and egg drop soup on the next few days....
Water, water, water...I swear at least 1-2 lbs is all the fluids I have to drink but I know it's good for me & healing.

Post op report

Mar 21, 2009

3-12-2009  I was fortunate to be scheduled for the "early" WLS procedure ...got to the hospital to check in before sunrise.
With all the coaching from my OH pal (The Dutchman's Wife) who had the procedure just the week before @ same facility, I was more comfortable with what to expect pre-op  & post op.

I awoke in post op unable to breathe - I'm guessing they must have just removed the tube.  I recall thinking ...OMG they'll have to do a "trachea" if I they can't get me to breathe.   It could have only been 30 seconds but I recall every moment.
From the dry gasping to the staff squeezing my neck while instructing me to relax & ordering the other staff to get "breathing treatment.  Just a few shallow inhales of that gaseous concoction & the airways reopened...Whew...
It was about noonish as I recall looking at the clock on the wall.
Then we waited for a room/bed upstairs to open for my relocation....that was about 4 pm.

I got to do my first walk around the "floor" that evening & got my first post op weight @ 249 lbs in the hospital sleeping gown.   I got another walk around about 3-4 am on Friday too.    Friday the cath was removed which was less uncomfortable than I recall from my second child's birth.  They also delivered lunch (jello & broth) and my first cups of water.   I was so thirsty...that was all I could do to drink.  Watch the clock - 1 oz every 15 minutes.  By the time my medical "team" arrived to check in on me, I had gotten down about 8 oz of water & had no trouble going potty.

So, I got the clearance for release Friday evening ...hurray...
But then came the drainage tube removal ...that I didn't like !

The next few days @ home were uneventful....I barely got up & down out of the Lazy Boy chair to walk around the house as prescribed to mitigate the risk of blood clots ..LOL.

By day 5ish...I started to get "food mares"...dreams of eating sees candies & lays potato chip...and after each nap was awoken by pain in the WLS site...dream dumping I'm calling it...LOL

By 3-19-2009, I'm on track for minimum quantity of Protein & Water

I'm not looking forward to the staple removal procedure...but equally can't stand these metal protruding items either.

My left shoulder however has been hurting since day 2...I keep a heating pad handy which is causing prickly heat bumps.  I'm wondering if it's air bubbles or just muscle breaking down too quickly due to inadequate protein intake the first 5 days.

Coughing & Sneezing is awful too.  The milk for protein drinks creates mucus (spelling?) for me.

The other side affect I believe from the Lovenox shots I've been easily prone to nose bleeding.

Still, based on what I've been reading in OH blogs, overall it sounds like we're both doing well without any serious side affects.  Hurray !

Last Supper - he he he

Mar 09, 2009

Tonight my husband & I went out to Dinner.
It's the most I've eaten in a long while.

Tuesday 3-10-2009 I start my "clear liquids only" consumption since my RNY WLS is scheduled for 3-12-2009.

I'm feeling better @ the procedure...
That is I'm sure I'll wake up without complications.
I'm just a woos so I'm still nervous about the 14 post op shots and the overall potential pain...although many of my friends have had it without reporting as much discomfort as I fear.

I've done my shopping & laundry so the Family can handle the household chores for the days I'll be in the hospital.

Whew it's really close now.
