Update on the books...

Sep 12, 2006

Both books that I ordered have arrived! I highly recommend them both.  I can't put them down.  That is why I haven't written in a while.  "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies"  Is full of information for people at all the different levels of the WLS journey.  They go through the whole process and give you info you can use when you are thinking about it, pre-op, and post-op advice.  "Reach for the Stars: A Guided Journal for your Weight Loss Surgery" by Sharon Neva is the missing piece to the "for dummies' book.  Reach for the Stars helps you think through the process and makes you ask your self questions about all the different steps and there are even blank lines for you to write the answers to those questions.  It is very therapeutic.  I recommend both to anyone out there looking for good information in one easy to carry and flip though location.  You have to order the Journal from the author directly and I have a better time with her than with Barnes and Noble.com  She will give you her personal email address and will sign your book.  if you would like to know how to order just email me and I will give you the information.

----Thanks again to Ktzmeow for letting me know about these awesome resources!----

So I have less than 2 months before my "new birthday" and I am getting really excited.  I pray that the Lord puts my heart at ease and takes total control over the surgery

Insurance and Cardiologist

Aug 10, 2006

So yesterday, I had a phone interview with my insurance case manager.  I was already approved but they go through and ask all patients getting this surgery done to answer questions similar to what the psychologist does.  She then went over important tips and guidelines for what to do after surgery.  She also explained how to exercise, how to drink, etc.  I thought it was a bit weird but nice at the same time.  She then told me that she would be calling me 1 month before surgery, the week after, and once a month for a bout 6- 12 months to check on my progress and get me to tell her what new thing/s I can do now that I could not do before.  I wonder if others have experienced this.  I am just happy to have a date and to be approved.  Now I have to go through all the testing.  The cardiologist was easy and thinks I should be fine as long as my echocardiogram comes out clean.  I am worked about hat a little though.  I have had high blood pressure since I was about 10 and I am now 25.  There is no telling what kind of real shape my heart is in.  I can exercise just fine but that does not mean my heart is not in bad shape I guess.  I am also worried about my blood glucose levels.  I have been reading in the forums that if your A1C is too high my doctor might not give me medical clearance.  I have an appointment with my PCP on Monday.  I will update on that after I see her.  I can't wait to get my papers in the mail from the Surgeon so that I can start making all the necessary appointments.  Oh yea, I also found out yesterday that I can use STD Ins. at work so I won't have to use up all of my sick and vacation time at work.  I am so glad that I signed up for it.  It is only like 2 bucks or so a paycheck and now I see it is sooo worth more.

I have a DATE!!

Aug 08, 2006

November 7th!!!!!  That will be the day my life changes forever.  I finally was approved for surgery and I can't wait.  The sure do help the time fly by giving you many appointments to make.  I told my boss about have to be gone for 2-3 weeks and he had no problem with it at all.  He wants us all to take care of ourselves first.  I didn't tell him what type of surgery nor do I plan to.  He never asked and he told me to put my time off on the calendar but not to put why I will be out, just that I would be.  He really is a great supervisor.
