I am a 26 year old Clinical Mental Health Counseling student in Indiana. A year ago I had knee surgery to repair some tearing, and wound up spending 3 days in Critical Care and 8 days in the hospital battling pulmonary embolisms that almost took my life.  A few months later I had complications from PCOS, requiring another emergency surgery, and the doctor's comments said "Patient was too obese to see through surgical instrument." At that point I knew I had to do something, and dieting alone was not working.  I began to look at pictures of myself and was humiliated - I didn't realize how out of control things had gotten in less than six months. I found out in Christmas of 2008 that I had been approved for Roux-en-y bypass, and had my surgery on Jan. 5, 2009 - just in time to make it to a birthday I almost didn't get to have.  I am blessed beyond belief with a supportive group of friends and family, who have helped me make me through this transition. I hope to lose around 100 pounds, with my goal to be in knee high boots by fall. :) There is nowhere but up for me!
