My first blog
Aug 08, 2008
I have never blogged before; and, while I have been reading other member's blogs, I have been scared to start one myself. Which is honestly just silly because I have no problems talking about my surgery or anything else going on in my life with the people around me.
I guess I am just feeling overwhelmed, nervous, excited, scared all at the same time. There is so much information to take in. I went to a seminar with Dr. Moazzez just this past May. I called the next day to get a one-on-one consultation with the Dr. and couldn't get an appointment until July. I was frustrated at first, but then the time just flew by. By the time I left his office, my surgery had been decided and scheduled for August 25th. Wow, that is really fast. I found out yesterday that it has to be pushed back to September 5th, which is fine, gives me that much more time to prepare. So far I am almost done with all my pre-op appointments. I have the sleep study this weekend, which I am not looking forward to. I have had all my labs, gallbladder ultrasound, psychological evaluation and first nutrition session done. We did find out that my gallbladder will need to be removed in December, after I have recovered from the RNY surgery. Oh well, what can you do. It just seems to be moving so fast. I am not complaining. I read the posts by people who are waiting 6+months to even get the surgery scheduled. I am so excited to start my new life it is ridiculous. But it all feels like a dream.
I am doing well on my pre-surgery weight loss, down 11 lbs, only 9 more to go. This high protein, low carb diet isn't bad, but I do miss my carbs. The nutritionist said yesterday that we could use protein shakes for one meal a day if we were not losing as quickly as we would like. I think I might try that. Breakfast is the hardest since I tend to eat in the car on the way to work and well, its hard to find something low carb that can be taken in the car. A protein shake would definitely solve that problem and get me used to drinking them.
Off to find a protein shake I can handle, since I hear they can be difficult to find. Will check back in later...
