I don't even know where to begin my story. I am and have been overweight most of my life. I have many health problems that have brought me to the decision of having the lap-band. I have had a total of four back surgeries, the last one a lumbar fusion, as I have Degenerative Bone Disease of my vertebra. After taking a glucose tolerance test I was told I have Type 2 Diabetes. I also have Hypothyroidism, Sleep Apnea and Arthritis in my knees and ankles to name a few.
I am doing this first and foremost to improve my health; I want to be a healthy and active mom and wife for my daughter and husband. It was hard at first to admit that I couldn't do this on my own. I have done it all, tried it all, and have failed over and over again. I felt like there was nothing left for me to do but WLS. I started researching it and found that not only is this not the easy way out, but it is going to be one of the hardest things I have ever done. I see this as being a new beginning for me and for my whole family and know that we will all eat better.
I live on a small farm with lots of animals which I dearly love. Caring for the horses, ponies, goats, sheep, pigs and assortment of ducks and chickens is a lot of work but I wouldn't change it. Since my daughter was young she has shown horses at the 4-H, local and sanctioned levels. It’s a lot of work and we have had to slow down because of my weight. I used to go trail riding with friends and I would go 4-wheeler riding with my husband. I don't have the energy to enjoy these activities. After I loose the weight I hope my energy level will increase and I will be able to return to an active happy life.
My biggest goal is that in a year I can be proud of what I have accomplished. I am so ready to finally win the battle of the bulge that I have had all my life.
