Exercising!!

Jun 04, 2011

It's hard to believe that just over six months ago, after my surgery, I was slowly walking around the outside of my house for exercise. Now, I am doing something I thought I would never do. Jogging on the treadmill for up to 45 minutes. I am not breaking any records, but it is still something. I sweat something terrible. However, it's a good sweat and I love it!! I am going to keep heading that direction and work on at least a 12 minute mile by the end of summer.

6 months out

May 21, 2011

Well, I used to always say that I will only run when being chased. Now...I am actually running on the treadmill. I thought I would never do that. I used to come up with every excuse in the book to avoid it or as to why I shouldn't do it. I feel good and am actually able to move a lot easier, so running isn't so bad. I am losing an average of a pound a week now, which is somewhat frustrating due to the lack of big numbers that were coming off before. However, I have to keep in mind any loss is better than nothing. The closer one gets to goal, the slower the loss. My goal weight is within my grasp, but still slow going. I wish I could wake up tomorrow morning and be at goal. I know, I know, it didn't come on over night, so it won't come off over night. I'll just keep trucking along and appreciate the small accomplishments that come with weight loss...smaller clothes, smaller shoes, the ability to move without pain, waking up feeling refreshed versus stiff, etc. Lastly, it is weird to hear people say I'm skinny. I still don't see myself as skinny. I guess in comparison, I am skinny. People don't recognize me, so I have to reintroduce myself. That's kind of fun. The journey continues and I continue to be up for the challenge. Goal weight here I come.

Weight Update!

Apr 03, 2011

I have been at a stand still for a couple of weeks, and it finally broke. I was really stressing. Even though I logically knew it would happen, I had a hard time dealing with it emotionally. I'm sure almost everyone has been through it. I finally hit below below 190, and am at 188. Thank goodness!!

Update!

Mar 18, 2011

Well, I ended up joining a gym. I was trying to avoid it, but realized it was something I needed so I could up the ante on working out. My routine is 3-4 days a week....work out for about an hour and half. Hour of cardio and half hour strengthening. I noticed that I feel a lot better after the work, but certainly don't feel that great during the workout!! ;-D  I am approaching a 50 pound weight loss since surgery. I think that is a good pace of weight loss. It's about 10-13 pounds a month. I'm okay with that...as long as I am on my way down.

Weight is coming off more slowly!

Feb 05, 2011

Well, I knew it would happen...and it has. The weight is starting to come off slower and slower. I know that it is reality, but it still stinks. I just have to up the ante now....more exercise. eeeek!

Wow!! I got a pair of size 18 pants for Christmas, and it fits!!! I have not seen a size 18 since I was in my late teens or early 20s. It feels weird, but great.

More than a month after surgery

Dec 22, 2010

I always thought that after surgery my biggest problem was going to be getting enough protein. However, my biggest problem is hemorrhoids. I hate this...I feel sick every 3 to 4 days, because the simple act of a BM is too painful to take. Oh, I cannot wait to be back to normal...in regard to that!!!!

Returned to Work! ;-/

Dec 07, 2010

It's always great to see my students, but returning to work kicked my butt more than I thought it would. I was surprised at how tired I was by the second day, today. Everyone has noticed the weight I have lost, but I look in the mirror and I have a hard time recognizing the loss. I know I have lost, but still cannot see it. I know it is most likely psychological. Well, I have 8 more work days then 2 week winter vacation. Therefore, I will get a break to rest mentally while increasing my strength.

First follow-up with surgeon.

Dec 03, 2010

Well, the follow-up was very positive. I have lost 18 pounds since surgery and am healing well. I can go back to work Monday, and am definitely ready to see my students.  I am hopeful that I will continue to make great progress. However, I hate what is happening to my neck. I am fearful that weightloss will truly age me...make me look older than I actually am.

Week 2 down... ;-)

Nov 28, 2010

Week 2 is down and I feel better a little everyday. The only real problem I have is pain in stomach muscles. There are just certain areas in my tummy that seem to be sensitive when it comes to some movements (bending over, twisting, etc.). I hope I haven't hurt myself. Finally, I still feel tired an awful lot. So, I am not sure if it is still the recovery process or low calorie intake. Good note: I have lost 17 pounds since my surgery.
