I've struggled on and off with my weight most of my adult life.  I was only a little over weight as a teenager but during my 20s I took all the excess weight off and kept it off until my early 30s.  Then WHAM the weight just kept coming and I could not get it off.  I would diet and exercise and some of the weight would come off but if I didn't follow a very strict diet the weight would come back and then some.

There were many changes during those years... a marriage (thought it was a good thing), moving and moving again then moving once more (mixed), the company I work for being sold (very bad), a divorce (a really good thing), moving and moving again (bad and good), meeting a wonderful man who I share my life with (unbelievable great), having a 100 mile round trip commute to work (bad but could be worse), constant change and uncertainty at work (mixed)... the list goes on.

So two years ago I spoke with my former pcp.  I wanted to know why I could not get the weight to come off.  Was it related to a medical issue?  His answer was I should eat less and exercise more.  I showed him my food journal and exercise routine (Curves 5x per week plus 15 -20 mile bike rides or 4+ mile walks on weekends).  His only reply was that Curves wasn't really exercise.

At that point I kind of gave up.  I hit my highest weight in early 2007 (235 - 5'3") and have stayed there since.  In the Spring of 2007 I started to get very worried about the excess weight I was carring around.  When I stood up it felt like my right hip was going to give out.  When I got out of our truck my ankle felt like it was going to buckle under.  I couldn't walk or stand for long times as my feet would be an so much pain.

I started thinking about gastric bypass surgery when I read an article in the local paper about a woman who had had the surgery and how successful it had been.  I did some research and found a local doctor who was covered by my insurance plan.  So on November 12, 2007 I started my journey...
