Hi Everyone, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but I told my husband that I wanted to post the next update myself. So here I am. Still feeling alittle tired but all in all I feel really good (other than the gas pain...can you say ouch). Had my surgery around 4pm on Wed. the 20th. Dr said everything went smoothly except that he didn't transect my stomach because he felt it was too risky and posed too many possibilities of complications. He said that my liver was very enlarged and fatty and "sitting right on my stomach and was afraid of damaging the liver? Hopefully not being transected won't come back to haunt me down the line ...we will see. Pain control in the hospital was pretty good as well as the staff. I was in SICU (Surgical Intensive Care) the first night and it was wonderful. The nurses were awesome, they gave me a full sponge bath with lotion and massage. The rest of the stay the staff was ok on a general floor. The worst thing was the leak test..omg I thought I was going to die. It was done Thursday morning. Little did I know that it take over an hour. The had me lay flat on my back and then they tied me down to the scanning machine! Dribbled the solution into my mouth and said they would let me know when it was over. 75 minutes later after begging to let me out the said they were done and that the dye went all the way through...leak free. Yahoo! At that point my pain was at an all time high and I couldn't move because I was laying flat for so long. They finally helped me back onto my own bed and back to my room. Trying to get me transfered to a regular room took some time but finally Thursday evening I was taken to my regular room (It was a private room, even without requesting one, it was heavenly. There my urinary catheter was removed as well as my NG tube thank GOD! I got up and walked to the bathroom immediately, just because I hated waiting that long to get started on my walking. I had 2 forms of pain control at that point. Dialudid (sorry about spelling) through a pump where I could administrate it every 10 minutes to myself and a new device which was almost like an epidural except in my stomach. There were little tubes going into my stomach on each side of the incision and a little pack that contained time release anesthetic to the site. I guess it seemed to help because I never really had incisional pain unless I coughed. Thank Goodness for my pillow! That night, Thursday I began my water intake... 1ounce every hour for 4 hours than 2 ounces every hour for 4 hours and then 3 ounces an hour for four hours. Finally Friday morning I was given 8 ounces of Carnation Sugar Free Instant Breakfast and was told I should drink it over a 2 hour period. Well I drank about 4 ounces in the 2 hours and boy was I full. That morning they took my friend away (MY Diludid pump!) So they brought me 2 Percoset tablets and I had to wait to take them because I was so full I was afraid to try. Finally got them down and was full for another long period. On Friday Dr. Halop came in and I met him for the 1st time. ( even though he was one of the surgeons that operated on me, I only met Dr. Goodman up to this point) He asked how I was feeling and when I wanted to go home! He said that I could go home Friday night if I liked. I opted to stay until Sat. morning, especially since my insurance was covering until then. He said no problem and put me on an antibiotic because my incision area looked a little red. The rest of the stay was pretty uneventful. I walked, slept and drank my water... insuring to get in atleast 3 ounces an hour. Started figuring out when my meds were coming so that I knew to hold off on too much liquid. So happy that I get the full feeling warning. Sat morning I was discarged feeling pretty good. Got sent home on 4 meds, my Blood Pressure meds that I should be off of as soon as I get to my Primary Dr., Vicadin for pain as needed,Prevacid for acid, andlevaguin an antibiotic, for the red incision which looks better. Today, Sunday, I feel really good...still have gas pain and no bowel movement. 5 days out and still liking chicken broth. Dr told me to start purees on Wed., so 3 more days of liquids. Yeah. 5 days out and down 12 pounds from starting weight. Feeling really good...hope it continues. Talk to all of you soon. Thank you all for your support and kind e-mails/postings. (Your support means so much to me!) Jamie

JAMIE MADE IT THROUGH WITH FLYING COLORS yesterday (surgery took 2-1/2 hours OPEN RNY) although the doctor was unable to transect her stomach because she had a very fatty liver. It was just so enlarged that the doctor could not maneuver I guess around the stomach to transect it. However she did successfully have the RNY just no transection. She is officially on the losing side now!! YEAH!! She is staying in ICU overnight and will be moved to a regular room tomorrow. Please stop by her surgery page and wish her well!! Thanks!!

Hi Jamie "Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, any one can start from now and make a brand new ending "There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." ~ O. S. Marden "Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil." ~ James Allen "I asked God to give me happiness. God said, "No. I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you." ~ Author Unknown "Goals give you more than a reason to get up in the morning; they are an incentive to keep you going all day. Goals tend to tap the deeper resources and draw the best out of life. "Put yourself in a state of mind where you say to yourself, 'Here is an opportunity for me to celebrate like never before, my own power, my own ability to get myself to do whatever is necessary." ~ Anthony Robbins " ~ Harvey Mackay "Life is a challenge, but if you don't stand and risk you will never know if you were able to win or lose. Challenges are not a thing of winning or losing; they are a way of learning from them to become a better person every day! ~ Alexsander Rodriguez, P.R "Don't ask for it to be easy, ask for it to be worth it." Dan Kuschell "The most important question to ask is not 'What am I getting?' The most important question to ask on the job is 'What am I becoming?'"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however." - Richard Bach "In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins; not through strength, but through persistence." ~ Jackson Brown "I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning." ~ J.B. Priestly "Each of us has an inner dream that we can unfold if we will just have the courage to admit what it is. And the faith to trust our own admission. The admitting is often very difficult." ~ Julia Cameron "The block of granite which was an obstacle in the pathway of the weak becomes a stepping-stone in the pathway of the strong. That block of granite is often nothing more than a decision." ~ Thomas Carlyle "Being yourself is not remaining what you were, or being satisfied with what you are. It is the point of departure." ~ Sydney Harris "Risk! Risk anything! Care no more for the opinion of others, for those voices. Do the hardest thing on earth for you. Act for yourself. Face the truth." ~ Katherine Mansfield "Too often we are scared. Scared of what we might not be able to do. Scared of what people might think if we tried. We let fears stand in the way of our hopes. We say no when we want to say yes. We sit quietly when we want to scream. And we shout with the others, when we should keep our mouths shut. Why? After all, we do only go around once. There's really no time to be afraid. JUST DO IT." ~ Nike advertising campaign "I am convinced that attitude is the key to success or failure in almost any of life's endeavors. Your attitude - your perspective, your outlook, how you feel about yourself, how you feel about other people - determines your priorities, your actions, your values. Your attitude determines how you interact with other people and how you interact with yourself." ~ Carolyn Warner "Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives." ~ Author Unknown "It's never too late to be what you might have been." ~ George Eliot "For every beauty there is an eye somewhere to see it. For every truth there is an ear somewhere to hear it. For every love there is a heart somewhere to receive it." ~ Author Unknown "Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to the end, requires some of the same courage which a soldier needs." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson A wish changes NOTHING; A decision, changes EVERYTHING "So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable." Christopher Reeves "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior." Isaiah 43:2-3 Everyone has beauty but not everyone sees it. "If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they may have planned for you? Not much." ~ Jim Rohn May you always have an Angel by your side. Watching out for you in all the things you do. Reminding you to keep believing in brighter days.
