My story started about 27 years ago when I quite smoking and gained 100 lbs in one year. At my psych eval, the doc said I had just traded one addiction for another and he was right. Over these years I have gained and lost, gained and lost. I have been on every diet know including Meridia and Weight Watchers. My last attempt started on May 13th 2008 when I joined HMR at Grenee Memorial Hospital. This was a diet based on protein and carb shakes with a daily calorie intake of between 500 and 700 calories for 20 weeks and then another 20 weeks. I lost about 60 lbs. and then went on maintenance at which point up until today I have gained back 49 of thos 60 lbs. I had considered WLS previously but never quite had the courage to go for it. Now, I feel that it is my only choice to get back my health. My co-morbidities are asthma, sleep apnea, blood pressure, and high cholesterol. When I had lost 60 lbs. I was off of my bP meds and my cholesterol med, but am about to go back on both. I may need a beta blocker prior to surgery. I try to remain active. I swim three tiems a week and do weights twice a week. Walking is difficult due to pain in my feet and breathing. I also play golf in the summer time. I want my life back. My husband will retire next year and we are planning a motocycle trip to Anchorage Alaska and back and if I do not lose this weight, I don't think this trip will be possible. OH website is and has been my support and encouragment as I embark on this next journey.
