3 years and happier than ever

May 06, 2013

It has been 3 years since my Roux N Y 5/4/2010 and I have kept off 110 of the 120 pounds I lost.  I am now working on getting that 10 pounds back off with lots of exercise and going back to weighing, measuring and keeping a food diary.  Not going to let it creep up on me again.

My biggest goal and achievement after the weight loss was defeating C-diff after some major infections and 10 weeks in the hospital including a pulmonary embolism.  With the help of a fecal transplant in February 2011, I have been c-diff free ever since.

Yes there were some major hurdles, my surgery did not go smoothly, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.  I have a full life back, I am no longer using a breathing machine at night, no more asthma.  Absolutely no prescription drugs of any kind.

I exercise religiously, swimming laps, walking while playing golf, engaging in different programs such as Move to Lose at my local YMCA.  I went from a size 24 down to a size 10 and have maintained that size for two years and counting.

Good Luck  to all of you who are just starting out on your journey.  All my thoughts and prayers are with you.  You won't be disappointed.

One Year and 120 lbs gone

May 07, 2011

I never thought it would happen, but I am happy and grateful that I had my roux n Y.  It was a long difficult journey and I almost lost my life but today I am glad I did it.  My goal weight was 145 and I am at 147-150.  Depends on the day.  I am off of all medications except my vitamins and singulair for allergies.  I am off my C-Pap machine.   I am swimming laps, 20 laps a little over a half a mile, three days a week.  Working with weights and exercises two days a week and weather permitting playing golf two days a week.  On June 1st my wonderful husband and I will be taking off on our motorcycle, Harley Classic and heading from Ohio to Alaska and then down to Seattle and back across the country.  When asked by my son when we would be back, my answer was, "Just keep mowing the lawn".   So life is good and God is good and I have been singularly blessed with my family and friends.  For everyone who is about to undertake this journey, go with God, you will be victorious.

92 lbs down

Dec 05, 2010

Well the weight is coming off albeit a little more slowly, which is not all bad.  Having some issues with gas but it is controllable.  Finally off the medicine for the C-Dif and expect there will be some changes and hopefully not a relapse.

I have a major question.  I am trying to change my Avatar and need the site where  you can change the size of your picture.  I used it for the current picture which is 92 lbs. ago and would really like to change it, but all of my pictures are to large.  I know there is a site which allows you to downsize your pictures.  Help, anyone.

80 lbs down

Oct 19, 2010

Just 20 more pounds to get that 100 lbs. off.  I reached onederland and now weigh 188 lbs.  I would like to lose another 40 lbs. That seems like a really possible goal for the first year.  I still can't eat very much.  If I stick to 1/2 cup I do pretty well.
I take my vitamins regularly and should get the results of my blood tests next week.  I missed the support group meeting last night because I was having a severe reaction to eating French Onion Soup for lunch.  guess I'll never do that again.  I was in agony.  It is that old Trial and Error lesson.  That was definitely an error.  I need to have a picture taken so I can update my profile pic.  Will do that soon.   Our new house is coming along and we should be in it before Christmas.  I can't wait.  This living in a 500 square foot studio apartment is for the birds.  I want my space back and so does my husband.  At least we have found out we can survive in a small space together and not kill each other :-) LOL.  Hope eveyone is doing well.

Off more meds

Sep 23, 2010

Another red letter day.  My Vanco has been reduced to twice a day and I have totally discontinued the Cardazom.  Guess I'll be on the coumadin for a year, and the metrotoprol succinate.  Will start weaning off the lasix and potassium.  Feeling much better and going to the Y three days a week and walking in the pool.  Next week maybe will start some weightsNow if only I could eat something besides cream soups and tortilla soup, etc.   Anything more solid I just seem to have dumping episodes.  Can't eat more than 1/2 cup of anything.  Baked beans, refried beans, soups (sometimes a cup)
Taking my vitamins, pretty religiously, but don't seem to be getting my calcium in.  Just have to try harder.
HOpe everyone has a great day.  Will take pictures soon.

ONEDERLAND

Sep 14, 2010

Reached onederland, what a great feeling.  197.5.  Started back at the Y yesterday, walked in the therapy pool for an hour.  Going back this afternoon for some cardio and weight machines.   then it will be pool Monday, Wednesday and Friday and weights on Tuesday and thursday.   Got to get some toning in there.
Not to say that everything is smooth sailing, still having trouble eating, and getting enough fluid in.  Getting all my vitamins and iron but keep forgetting my calcium.   That will come.
Will attend support group meeting Monday night at Whipp Road,  Wonderling, I hope to see you there.

Feeling Better

Sep 10, 2010

Well I have been out of the second hospital stay for two weeks now.  Feeling much better.  Have lost 60 pounds.  55.5 pounds to go.  I don't recognize my face in the mirror.  Will finally start going to meetings starting on the 20th.  I am anxious to see some old friends.  Tony, Steve, Crystal, Diana sure hope to see you at the whipp rd meeting on the 20th.  I don't know when the kettering hosptial meeting is this month, is it next Thursday or did I miss it?   Still weak, legs are still, wobbly but walking withut a cane.  Only major problem is stairs, no quad strength, need a railing or a person to help with stairs.   Hope to start driving next week and then will start walking in the therapy pool at the Y.
Hugs to everyone.

Right after my last blog, on Monday I went for a chest x-r4ay as my D-Dimer blood test was way high.  Tuesday I was re-admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my lower right lung and a relapse on the C"-diff.   I was released from the hopsital yesterday, 3 weeks later and we are back to square one with lots of adde medeications like coumadin and a bunch of other blood clotting meds.   I wonder if I will ever get my life back.     Don'/t know when aI will feel like seeing anyone, but will keep wathcing the site.

RNY IS A TOTAL DISASTER

Jul 29, 2010

I had my surgery May 4th,  two weeks later was being treated with a drain for an internal abcess.  After two weeks drain was removed and  one day later I was back in the hospital with the same infection only worse, 102 fever.  Put in hospital and another drain added.  was in hospital for 7 weeks, during which time, another mid line abcess opened externally and my appendix went hot and had to be removed.   I was put on so many antibioitcs that I then got an infection called C.dief which I am still figthing.  there was a real chance during this time that I was not going to make it.   I was released from the hospital last thusday, home with care, uncontrollable diarrhea, unable to walk, without a walker, major oedema, etc. etc.
Am I a happy camper NOT.   right now I am in the process of cancelling my reservation to the conference as I cannot walk or drive.  I am told it will be at least 14 weeks before I am close to normal.
Very bitter feelings right now.

The start of a new day

Jun 03, 2010

and hopefully life.   The drain came out yesterday and believe it or not, I came home, ate some dinner and went to bed at 6:30 and I am now up and feeling better than I have in weeks.  Some tenderness and swelling which hopefull will recede quickly.  I can actually move, stand, sit etc.   Life is going to be good.  I am determined.   the weight is coming off, slowly, but then I have done nothing but sleep and lay around.  time for a change. Get those muscles working girl.
I know I can't just leap up of the couch and run a marathon, but I do plan to start moving.  right now the first move is into the kitchen and have a protein shake for breakfast.  that usually gets my day off to a good start.  then I will take it from there.
Have to watch for fever or swelling in case the infection comes back but lets all pray that it does not.   Need all the hlep in that department I can get.   Tony, Steve, Diana, Crystal, I will see you all at the meeting next week.   I am meeting with Marta our nutritionist and the exercise physiologist on Tuesday the 8th.   Crystal if you need anything give me a call.   Hugs to everyone.
