One Year ago Surgery-My thoughts

Sep 01, 2007

One year ago I had surgery, it's truely the best thing I have ever done for myself.  I'm not done on my journey, but I have discovered hidden layers of who I am, and I am pretty darn cool if I say so myself.  This journey has also helped me emotionally because I made a vow to myself to look deep and discover the "why's" behind my eatting habits.  Not all of it has been great, I have some issues that I need to keep working on that I tend to hide behind food, and sometimes they are too hard to pull out into the light. Physically, the surgery has been amazing.  Very little unhappiness in my tummy, just a few operator error problems like "I can eat juuust one more bite!".

I can do more, keep up with my kid, run, ride my bike and live more fully.  I can shop at regular clothing stores, I can go out to dinner and not feel like everyone is staring.  Every time I bring home a 50 pound bag of dog food and STRUGGLE to bring it in from the car, I am reminded that I carried DOUBLE that amount on my body for over 15 years.  It still awes me.  I am grateful.

almost a year, sugar demon

Aug 26, 2007

I can honestly say that I have not lost any significant weight for 3 months.

I also started eating sugar 3 months ago.

I didn't start on purpose--sugary things just kept  sneaking into my diet.  Then I was buying sugary things at the store.  Everyday I had to have a sweet.  I am REALLY not mocking any addiction--I am serious.  It sounds like I need a 12 step program for sugar.

So yesterday I finally decided to kick the sugar to the curb.  I had 3 peices of SF candy, nothing else sweet.

I looked up sugar sensitivity---lots of stuff to cull through to seperate fact from fiction, but I really think my body treats sugar like a toxin.  I know my depression is worse when I eat sugar, my weightloss stalls, I am sleepy, I am not motivated to do anything.

So today we start day 2 of sugar-free.  Frankly I'm p-o'ed that I can't have a sweet every once in awhile, but like other addictions.....

THE VIEW FROM 10 MONTHS OUT

Jun 14, 2007

I'm a little over 10 months out and I started with 150 pounds to lose.

1st 50 came of fast, a little over 2 months

2nd 50 took longer, I expected that...got down 100 pounds on Mother's Day this year.

3rd 50?  In the 6 weeks since Mother's day I have lost 7 pounds...ouch, yet not totally unexpected either.  I was hoping to lose at a rate of about 10 pounds a month for this last leg of the journey, but stalls have me where I am.  Currently stalled for 3 weeks and I have not been eating great after the 1st week of stalling, plus I have been struggling to exercise which is only to my detriment.  I just get frustrated and I end up making it worse by eating too many carbs because they go down easy and taste good.  Not that I'm eating brownies and cookies, but I tend to lose best by eating less than 30 grams of carbs a day. Plus I am doing some stress eating late in the evening that I wasn't doing before.  I try to stay with something like sf popcicles or pickles, but the occasional cracker attack has happened.

So here is my advise for those who have just had surgery...follow the plan your nutritionist/doctor as  close as you can for the 1st 6 months because that is your biggest window to lose.  It's so much easier to eat after 6 months and things slow down a lot.

I think I'll get there, but every pound now is a struggle unlike the breeze it was at first.   I am trying to put my head back in place and get back into exercise so I can get that scale back to moving!

99 pounds down, I am at 205.  And right behind my century mark is ONEDERLAND!!

I think I was about 23, 24 when I last weight under 200 pounds.  Wow...this is so awesome!

THIS BLOWS MY MIND!  I am 3 pounds away from 100, and in 5 days it will be 8 months out from my surgery.  I am eating really well and except for yesterday walking at least 2 miles a day.

Reality Check II

This tool is amazing, in 7 days of eating like I am suppose to, I have dropped 5 pounds.  I'm only 4 lbs away for my Century Card!  96 down in less than 8 months!!

Reality check

Apr 20, 2007

Well, I am just writing off the last part of March and the 1st week in April.  I had some serious eating issues that I have finally gotten under control.

The problem was that I was getting complacent in how I was looking (size 16 down from a 26) and subconsciously I think I decided I was pretty well ok with how well I had done with this weight loss tool and just let old habits creep back into place.  I went up 5 pounds and down 5 all month and had a net loss of 2 pounds in 1 month.  Well at 7 months out that is really pathetic, so time to re-evaluate

WARNING!!!   Do you know that you can actually eat a whole LOT at 7+ months out?  And if you pick foods like chips and salsa, jelly beans, chocolate easter candy etc instead of good choice protiens, vegs and good carbs that you will go nowhere fast.  It is so easy to let a lifetime of eating habits sneak back into your life and I wanted to share this with you guys who are just starting out on this journey.

The good news is that I am back on track and in just 5 days of proper eating I am down 3 pounds already, so you can get back to losing without too much difficulty. At the end of this month I will be 8 months out.

The difficult part is the mindset.  I think I needed to eat crappy to show myself what I needed to do for myself.  Now I am back in the losing mindset and I have 55 more pounds to lose.  I may not lose it all, but I am sure going to try...I know I have only a certain time frame to use this tool for weightloss, so I want to make the most of it.

7 months

Apr 05, 2007

I'm a touch over 7 months out, am down 92 pounds and feeling really well.  I'm losing very slow right now, but I am struggling with my awful PMS during 2 weeks of each month and I have found i AM TURNING TO BAD FOOD CHOICES TO COPE.  I'll be working with my Gyn to see if a different med with help with the moodyness, agitation and hopefully the cravings.  I don't lose those 2 weeks and then the other 2 weeks I do...got to see if I can overcome this demon!!

My best moment of this month was playing freeze tag with a bunch of 2nd graders on a church retreat...I ran and ran and was never out of breath!  It was AWESOME
