12/12/02 Hello, sent in a packet to Dr. Henderson in Brunswick GA. Waiting to hear from them and about my BCBS Federal benefits. Wanting a LAP procedure. Cannot wait to hear from them and get to meet Dr. Henderson.

12/20/02: Dr. Henderson's office called and said I needed to send in my psyciatric evaluation and a TSH (thyroid) test results. I already had these so I faxed them into the office so they could fax to BCBS FED. Waiting to hear back....

12/27/02: Still waiting to hear from Dr. Henderson's office. I guess things are slow all over because of the holidays. I log onto this website every day and look at photos and read profiles. I know I am making the right decision. My family is a little scared for me knowing I won't be able to eat like I use to. I told them that eating style is why I am the weight I am now. I can't wait to get this surgery over with so I can start on my new life. I want to run on the beach, hike mountains and be physically active without pain. I want my blood pressure to return to normal. Happy Holidays to all !

01/04/03: Still waiting....I called my insurance company yesterday and they said they have received the information from Dr. Henderson's office. Bariatric surgery is subject to medical review. BCBS said it takes about 10-15 days for them to process the information to decide a pre-determination/prior approval for the surgery. BCBS will then send the prior-approval to Dr. Henderson's office and then I can finally get an appt to meet the doctor. I have BCBS federal and live in Florida. Since I am hoping to have surgery in Georgia, BCBS of Georgia is handling my case instead of BCBS of Florida. Happy New Year to all.

01/13/03: Still waiting, going to call BCBS today and ask about the status. All this waiting is making me sick. I want to get moving.....I just called. BSBS still has not gotten to my case. Will call again toward the end of this week. Sandra at
BCBS said it takes on average 10 business days to approve/deny, if they have all the paperwork required to render a decision. They received it on Jan 3rd.

01/17/03: APPROVED!!!!!!!! Just talked to BCBS and I am approved for surgery. That is one weight lifted off my shoulders. (they approved on 01/14/03) I will call Dr. Henderson's office next week and see if they have received the letter from them yet. Waiting on an appointment with the doc now.

01/17/03: I couldn't wait for the doc office to call me. I called them. I gave them the BCBS approval number and they scheduled my appt and surgery date at the same time. My visit to the doc is Feb 6th and my surgery date is Feb 11th. I have to get a gallbladder scan done before I go in on the 6th.

01/23/03: One more thing to do.....I had to get a gallbladder scan. I had this done today. Dr. Henderson requires a gallbladder scan before surgery. If there are gallstones present or the gallbladder is diseased, he removes it at the same time as the surgery. I am going on a cruise to Mexico on Carnival cruise line on Jan 30th (5 day cruise). I guess this will be my last big meal. I plan on eating what I want and I am not going to worry myself about food.

02/05/03: Back from the cruise. Boy was that fun....weather was beautiful, in the 80's. I have a sunburn from laying around the pool and beach in Mexico. Well, the nerves are really starting to jump, 6 more days till surgery. I cannot think about anything else but this surgery. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I know most of you are feeling/felt the same way. I go for my pre-op tomorrow and finally get to meet Dr. H. I sent in a picture of me that was taken in Cozumel, Mexico while on the cruise to be posted to this profile. Hopefully it will be posted soon as my "before" picture. Good day all!!

02/10/03: Tomorrow is my big day. Doing the pre-op thing today(bowel cleansing, yipee) I will have "my last meal" about 9am, eggs and toast, then clear fluids for the rest of the day. I have been in a fuzz all weekend thinking about this. I know I am ready for a new lighter me but I am scared I will fail this surgery somehow. I have always failed all other weight loss attempts. I will be praying for myself tonight and I will have my daughter (she is 9) and my husband with me to say a prayer. Oh, by the way, Southeast Regional Medical Center is a nice hospital. I was in and out in no time when I went for the pre-op testing. They were all very friendly, especially Ericka, the dietician. I went up to the 6th floor and took a look around because that is the floor we get sent to after surgery/recovery. Very clean and quiet and all private rooms. The rooms are fairly large with a TV and small sink and counter top area. It will be nice to be in a private room to recover. You won't have to hear anyone else pass gas, cough, cry, complain or whatever else recovering folks may do. Hahaha Take care and I will update when I can.

02/16/03: Well, here I am. The surgery is through with and I feel fantastic. I had the Lap RNY so I don't have all those abdominal pains more associated with the open RNY. I have 6 small incisions from where the tools were inserted. One is still an open incision about 1 inch and 1/2 long, it is packed with gauze and one incision has a drain line coming out of it. I must say the drain is a big pain in the butt, its just hanging there and you have to empty it every so often. Other than all that.....I really do feel great. It has been really weird since surgery in that I have not felt hungry. I have been living on water, protein shakes, Campbells Soup at Hand cream soups, jello and had two small cups of coffee this morning. I tried 2 1/2 oz of cream of wheat cereal and it was good stuff not to mention having a food with some type of texture to it in my mouth. I go back on Wednesday to hopefully have this drain removed and the other open incision closed. I have been walking around quite a bit because it is good for me and I can't stand just sitting around all the time. Bending over all the way to the floor to pick something up is somewhat painful so the house is clean from my waist up...haha. Hubby does all the tough stuff. He has been drinking protein shakes and has increased his water intake also. He is supporting my new eating habits by adopting some of them. He wants to get into shape also, he only needs to loose about 30lbs. Will update again soon..

02/21/03: Lost 20lbs so far, I guess it is all that water weight. I can see this small loss in my face, neck and I can feel my wrists getting smaller. I had to adjust my watch band so it will quit twisting around my wrist. My post-op appointment went well. Had my drain removed, what a relief to get rid of that thing!! I hated it, stuffing it in my pants, emptying it, couldn't sleep on my side. My pic is finally posted. That pic was taken in Cozumel Mexico a few days before my pre-op appt, I weighed 290 then. Gotta figure out how to add a caption to it. Got the green light from the doctor to start eating yogurt, cottage cheese, fish, chicken and turkey. It has been nice to get some other tastes in my mouth besides water and protein drinks. I have given up mostly on the protein drinks because I can get my protein from the food I eat now. I can get 14 grams of protein from a half cup of cottage cheese and I love cottage cheese. I still feel great...

03/04/03: Hi everyone. My friend, Jacquie, is having surgery this morning. Her doctor is Dr. Henderson also. We work together and I found her through the "Find Peers" section of this website. This is a great support system and wealth of information, I applaud the folks running it! I have lost 28lbs so far and I don't even feel like I am trying. I have tried "sugar" and I guess it does not make me dump. I had one Samoa Girl Scout Cookie and it was very good. No ill effects...I gotta watch out that I don't get too comfortable with eating a cookie here and there. Getting use to this new way of eating, it is impossible to overeat. Once you eat a few ounces, it is over. Chicken makes me feel really full and makes my chest feel tight, so I don't eat too much at one sitting. Still doing a protein shake each day to try and keep up with the protein requirements. Good luck to all!

03/12/03: 35 pounds gone!! Hi folks...I go for my one month appointment today. Feeling good still and getting use to this new way of life. I have lost 35lbs so far. It is easy to bend over now and it is much easier to move around with just 35lbs gone. Starting to shed some old clothes. I plan on saving one pair of my Levi's (size 24) to take my "after" photo with. The weight is dropping so fast, it is totally amazing. Thanks to Dr. Henderson, I feel like a new woman already. My friend, Jacquie, has her 1 week follow up appointment today as well. I will get to see her at Dr. Henderson's office today. She is doing well and I can't wait to find out how much weight she has lost since her March 4th surgery.

03/13/03: 38 pounds gone!! Dr. Henderson's scale says 38lbs lost!! My friend Jacquie lost 19lbs since her March 4th surgery. Keep the protein, water and vitamins flowing!

04/15/03: 54 pounds gone!! Been a while since updating. I have lost 54lbs so far and I am on the plateau from hell. This plateau is going on three weeks now and I have only lost 4lbs in the last three weeks. I have been slacking up about the water and I am now trying to do better with that. I had to travel out of town on business for a week and that really messed up my eating/drinking schedule. I am trying to get back on track....slowly. I don't seem to have time to exercise with working full time and taking care of my daughter. I don't take elevators, I always try to find the stairs. When I was traveling last week with a girl I work with, she would only take the elevator. We split up sometimes and I went up the stairs and she rode the elevator. I wish I had started measuring myself at the beginning of this. I don't have any measurements to compare. I do know that I feel great from getting the 54lbs off. I have had to buy some new jeans one time already and I am ready to buy the next size now. This is great....everyone have a wonderful day!

05/13/03: 69 pounds gone!! Wow, its been a while since I have been in here. I still read the questions and answers page almost daily and cruise through the library every now and then. Having problems with being tired and having no energy. Went to my PCP and had blood work done. It seems as though my iron is low, so I need to go and buy an iron supplement in addition to the vitamins I take. I get very dizzy and lightheaded too, don't know what that is yet. I have been doing well otherwise, 69 pounds gone. I feel like a new woman. The other day, a pickup truck with three guys in it were yelling and whistling at me as I was walking into the store. I felt like a million bucks, it has been so long since I have gotten that kind of attention from men. I am still overweight, but I look so much better now than before surgery. I feel like I am bragging about myself and I guess I am. I just cannot thank the medical world enough for this surgery. It really has improved my self esteem, my marriage, my health (high blood pressure gone), my job, etc. Gonna go for now, everyone have a beautiful day!!

06/13/03: Down 80lbs. Developed a problem with my colon. I have diverticular disease and have a "mass" on my colon per the CAT scan I had done last Wednesday. The general surgeons are on strike in Florida due to the Malpractice Insurance Cap/Premiums. I have an appointment today with Dr. Brandigi, who works in the same office as Dr. Henderson. It is a shame I have to travel to Georgia to see a surgeon for this problem considering it is quite common. I just thank God for having a surgeon's office in Georgia available to me. I also have BCBS Federal Plan that allows me to "go anywhere I want to". That is a relief knowing the problems people who have HMO's go through. Anyway,...have a great "looser" day.

06/17/03: Still at 80lbs gone. I have developed a new problem not related to WLS. I have diverticular disease and part of my colon (about a foot) needs to be removed. The doctors in Florida are on strike because of the Medical Malpractice Cap/premiums that they are arguing about this week with the senate. I went to see Dr. Henderson last Friday and he can do the surgery for me. The surgery is tentatively scheduled for
07/23/03. I have to heal up from my current intestinal infection before I can have surgery to remove the damaged colon. If I don't heal properly when we do surgery, I will end up with a temporary Colostomy for 3 months and then another surgery to remove the colostomy and close my intestines back up. This is really depressing me. I seem to be on a plateau. I am blaming it on my colon problem, constipated for the last few weeks. I seem to be very nauseated all the time lately, I think its the colon thing that is making me sick. Anyway, good day to all...

07/14/03: 89lbs gone!! Weight loss has really slowed down. I do have my colon problem, drink beer and wine and have gotten away from the "plan". As long as the weight still drops off even though it is slowing down, I will continue to have a good time. I have lost this 89lbs fast as far as I am concerned and I am enjoying living a happy life having my beer and wine when friends come over. I am having my colon resection surgery tomorrow in Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center by Dr. Henderson. He said he was going to take 2 to 2 1/2 feet of my colon out to remove the diseased section caused by the diverticular damage. I am not looking forward to this surgery thing again so soon, but I need relief from this chronic constipation, pain and bloating. I bought a size 16 shorts the other day and they are a little snug. It feels so good to actually shop and buy clothes I like versus clothes that fit. I hope anyone who is wanting this surgery understands the life commitment that you have to make. It is worth every minute of it for me and hundreds or thousands of others who have had this surgery. I feel so much better about myself these days and my health has really improved. Please consider these things when you are making your decision. I was fat, depressed and unhealthy before this surgery. Now, I am still overweight, but very happy and very healthy (except the colon). Like others have said before.....I never have regretted this surgery and would do it all over again. It is really worth the commitment you need to make to yourself and to your health.

07/28/03: 98lbs gone! Back from colon surgery. That sucked!! It was a very painful recovery for the first week, much worse than gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Henderson was able to use 2 of my existing scars to enter laproscopically to remove the bad part of my colon. I am still swelled up in the abdomen area, but time will heal that. Still loosing weight, 2 more pounds and I guess I will be in the Century Club I think its called. Take care....

08/18/03: 104lbs gone! Slow but sure....

09/10/03: 110lbs gone! Been loosing hair for a few months, but feel great. Wearing size 12 and 14 which is a far cry from size 24 just 7 months ago. I am only 20lbs from goal, want to get to 160. I am 5'10" so 160 is a good weight for me. I have an appt with a plastic surgeon on 09/22 in Brunswick. Dr. Henderson recommended Dr. Mitchell. I can't beleive I have lost this weight so fast, guess that is why my hair if falling out!! I also developed shingles on my neck. My PCP thinks it was caused by all the stress I am putting my body through....weight loss surgery, colon surgery, working etc.

09/23/03: Plateau from hell....still at 110lbs gone. Had my consultation with Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Mitchell in Brunswick yesterday. He is very nice and a young 38 years old. The visit went very well. He is 95% positive he will get Blue Cross Blue Shield to pay for the tummy tuck, only 50% sure if they will pay for a medial thigh lift. I know they won't pay for the breast augmentation, so that one is on me. They took lots of pictures of me to send to the insurance company. Now I just sit and wait on insurance approval to see what they will and will not pay for based on the pictures and report that Dr. Mitchell sent them. Its the same waiting game as was for gastric bypass surgery approval.

10/02/03: 115lbs gone in 71/2 months!! Weight loss has really slowed down. Dr. Mitchell's (PS) office sent in the paper work to BCBS to see what they will pay for. I had them send me a copy of the letter in case I need to go to appeal. I wish they had written the letter a little better than they did. They covered the abdomnioplasty pretty well, but left out some symptoms the thighs are causing me. Well, we will see. The hair loss has slowed down. I actually dumped yesterday. Its been a long time since that happened to me. I was eating nuts and ate a half a sandwich. Too much at one time and I was not paying attention to what I was doing because I was busy running my mouth talking at the same time. I broke out in this terrible sweat and thought I was going to pass out. I left work, went home and slept it off. I have not dumped in a very long time. My husband told me yesterday that I am looking awfully skinny and I need to stop loosing weight. People at work are saying the same thing. I don't think I look sick or anything, people just are not use to seeing me like this. They were use to seeing me "all filled out and then some". Oh well, I want to loose another 15 pounds, its my body!! For those of you who don't know who Dr. Mitchell is, he is a plastic surgeon located about a block away from Dr. Henderson's office. Dr. Henderson recommended him to me. Take care all, I will update when I hear from BCBS and/or Dr. Mitchell's office.

11/06/03: 120lbs gone!! was on a plateau for a while, that is ok I guess. I am only 5lbs from my goal and the tummy tuck will get me to goal. Dr. Mitchell estimates 6-9lbs of skin and tissue removal. Well, BCBS will not give a prior approval so I just have to go through with it and hope they pay when the claim gets sent in. I have the pay Dr. Mitchell up front before he will proceed with the surgery, in case BCBS does not pay. That is allot of money!! I am scheduled for pre-op on the 11th of Nov and surgery is on the 17th of Nov. He will do it as an outpatient at a place called "Premeir". It is a cosmetic suite that he uses. Dr. M will require me to stay at a local hotel one night, so he can check on me the next day. Then I will get to go home to Florida. Wish me luck, new pic coming soon!!!!

12/11/03: Back from plastic surgery. Had tummy tuck, thigh lift and breast augmentation. The thigh lift is the worst part of all this, the incisions are in a very "delicate" area. I am very, very pleased with the results so far. It is nice to have that excess fat and skin gone, tummy is flat as a board. Don't have too much time right now to elaborate on things. My daughter is rehearsing for her Christmas concert at her school and I am going up there today to watch her rehearse. I will say one thing, if you need a plastic surgeon with the best bedside manner I have ever experienced in a surgeon, go see Dr. Michell in Brunswick. He is the best....I don't mind traveling from Florida to Brunswick at all. He is that good, he is a great artist and I am extremely pleased with all of his "art" work on me. Plus he is nice to look at!! Take care.

02/04/04: Wow, how time flys!! My anniversary date is coming up on Feb 11. I have lost 126lbs and hovering around 164. This is a good weight for me because I am so tall, 5ft10in. I feel fantastic and have recovered nicely from the reconstructive surgery. I am in a fight right now with my insurance company. They do not want to pay for the tummy tuck and thigh lift. Dr. Mitchell's office has started the appeal for me. Its a shame that BCBS paid for me to have gastric bypass surgery, lost 126lbs and then they deny coverage to remove excess tissue and skin. What planet are they on? Anyway, I will keep updating on that progress. I need to get another pic up soon, will work on that too. Take care everyone and good luck in your individual journeys.

03/04/04: Still hovering around 162-164. Still fighting with BCBS. I sent in an official appeal the other day, hope to hear something from them soon. Having trouble with my left breast. I have developed a "contracture". It is basically scar tissue surrounding the implant and the scar tissue is squeezing it. Dr. Mitchell has to manually try and break up the scar tissue from squeezing my breast as hard as he can once every two weeks. I hope this gets better soon becuase it is very painful to be squeezed to death!! It seems like allot of people are having problems with their gallbladder. So far so good for mine. Now that I have said that, I will probably start having problems with it, hahaha. Not much else to report, weight is gone, reconstructive surgery is over and I am the new me. Life is good.

04/12/04: Made it to 158lbs for a total loss of 132lbs!! BCBS Federal denied my appeal. I will be sending in a second level appeal to OPM (Office of Personnel Management). They don't consider it medically necessary and denied the coverage. My policy says it will cover it if it is medically necessary. My doctor sent in a letter saying it was medically necessary and they determined it was not. What the hell is wrong with them? I am so sick of this mess with insurance. I go to see Dr. Mitchell again tomorrow for a follow up on my breast contracture. It seems to be getting better. I also have a small dog ear on my right hip from the tummy tuck that he is going to fix with a local anestetic. I have some new pics and will be adding my final one soon. I need to stop this weight loss some how because I am 5ft10in and 158 is getting kind of low for me. My legs look really skinny and people are saying things to me about getting too small. Imagine that....first you are too fat and now too skinny. I have started eating basically junk food to try and keep some weight on me. This is so strange...

04/19/04: Ended up with 28 stitches in my right breast to fix it. Opted not to have dog ear on hip fixed due to the resulting scar would have shown when wearing my bathing suit. He pierced my belly button too !! Getting ready to submit my 2nd level appeal to BCBS. Waited till the last minute to do my taxes, sent them in on the 14th. Still holding around 158-161ish.

06/02/04: WARNING!!! INTERNET STALKER
Hi Everyone, I appreciate all the kind words and emails being sent since I have added a new pic to my profile. However, some internet pervert just obtained my home phone number somehow and called me this morning. He represented himself as a Blue Cross Blue Shield employee and was inquiring about my gastric bypass and reconstructive surgery. He said he was doing research for BCBS. I thought the guy was official until he asked me to send him pics of me in a bikini to a yahoo.com email address. I verified thru BCBS he is not and has never been an employee of BCBS. I then called the police here in Florida and made a report. BE CAREFUL........

06/03/04: 134lbs gone!! Just in here cleaning things up a little. I am sure the internet pervert has read what I wrote about him yesterday. I received lots of email about the subject. Seems like this guy, or maybe several guys, are finding out peoples home phone numbers and addresses by their profiles and calling and harrassing them. Sick puppies I tell ya......by the way, at 156lbs and holding.

07/17/04: Weight holding steady at 158ish....UPDATE on the BCBS appeal: I have not been officially notified by BCBS about the status of my last level appeal, however, I received an Explanation of Benefits for service date 11/17/2003. That was the day I had my reconstructive surgery, TT, Thighlift. BCBS paid the surgery center for their portion. The surgery center claim was previously denied and now they have paid. I am assuming this was a result of the appeal. Dr. Mitchell submitted his charges on a separate claim and that one has not been paid yet. Heck, if they are all of a sudden paying the surgery center which was previously denied, they must be going to pay Dr. Mitchell. I will be calling BCBS on Monday to find out the status of the other claims that were denied. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the appeal worked!! It is such a shame you have to go thru all this red tape and in the end they start paying. Guess some folks would have given up at the first denial and just paid for it themselves. It is a long drawn out process to go thru appeals, lots of paperwork, etc. Will keep updating on the progress of this saga....

08/10/04: Holding at 158lbs. Good news!!! I WON MY APPEAL WITH BCBS. They are paying for all the reconstructive surgery 100%. I received my letter from OPM yesterday. It pays to be persistent. It took me a long time to prepare the appeal for OPM, but it was worth all the headache. Good luck to everyone else in their journeys. Smiling all the way to the bank!!!!!

11/24/04: Holding still at 158-159lbs. I had to have Carpal Tunnel Surgery on both hands recently. I had my right hand done in September and the left hand done in October. Dr. Mitchell did the surgery for me. I am recovered from that for the most part...hands still a little weak. Wanted to wish all a Happy Thanksgiving and be careful with all that food around!! I will be 2 years out of RNY in Feb 05. I have begun to notice a few pounds trying to creep back on, but I weigh myself everyday and don't let myself go past gaining 2 pounds before I up the exercise to get rid of it. With the holidays upon us, it will be harder....Good luck all in whatever part of the journey you are in.

02/11/05: Still holding at 158-161ish. Today is my 2 year RNY anniversary. I feel so good and I have never regretted my decision to have WLS. Life is good!!!!

04/11/05: Hovering around 160-162. Been a while since updating. I read the main message board daily, well, I lurk. I don't interact too much because I am usually at work on lunch break when I look at it. It seems like lots of people have allot of the same issues post op that I seem to have. Hurting tail bone, low blood sugar, fluxtuating B-12 levels (I take monthly injections now thru my PCP), dizzy spells (low blood sugar and/or low blood pressure). I have developed severe charley horses in my calves at night when I am sleeping. I seem to think this may be due to dehydration as I do not drink as much water as I was during the weight loss phase. This surgery still amazes me. I think by what I eat, I should be gaining weight. I can eat sugar stuff, not much at one time though and I drink beer. I only seem to dump if I eat something too greasy or carbohydrate laden and I don't dump often. When I do, I can't throw up!! If I could just throw up, I know it would make me feel better instantly. I don't exercise. Something just does not compute. I am out of the "window" phase being over two years out, but my tool/pouch still amazes me. Life is still good and I hope to never become fat again. I deal with issues from time to time with society and how fat people are treated. Since being thin, I am treated with respect and completely different. Its funny, at work there are a few folks who basically shot their nose up at me when I was heavy, but now they want to be friendly. This really burns my candle wax!! As a matter of fact, I take great issue with this. Society is so cruel and I get so mad about it, even my own husband treats me different. He is a jealous control freak now. I can say this because he never took an interest in following my profile and I don't think he has EVER been on this website. It is like my own little hiding hole. Well, enough complaining about things I can't change. Hope everyone is doing well.

05/16/05: Still holding at about 161!! Not much new going on. It seems there is not much to post about anymore. My life has become stable and I am use to "myself" now. I still have my gallbladder and I find that amazing since most WLS folks have had their's removed. Maybe I should not say anthing, I might jinx myself. Weather in Florida is beautiful. Bought myself a very cute bikini from a beach surf shop. Got a lot of sun this weekend working in the yard. I still read the message board each day and read the question and answer section. I have a few more folks at work asking me questions about the surgery. One is a husband and wife team. I wish them both luck and am available for support to anyone who wants to chat. Take care till next time...

06/17/05: Gained a few pounds....watching the scale!! Up to 163 now. Anyway, been feeling really tired and keep getting these horrible leg cramps (charley horses), faint feeling. I went to my PCP and we did some blood work. Turns out I am anemic and B-12 is very low. I do the once a month injection of the B12, but my PCP determined it is not sufficient and I need to do it every two weeks now. That's a bummer cause I hate giving myself those shots. Starting Ferrous Sulfate for the anemia. Everyone, please make sure you get your blood work done when you are supposed to. I kinda let things slip a little too long and here I am anemic and B12 deficient. Feeling better today after giving myself the shot the other day. Take care..

09/07/05: Still at 163lbs and holding. Really don't have anything new to report. It seems like so long ago since I had surgery. Some folks at work have had the surgery and are going thru their changes. It is neat to watch them shrink. They know I had it done and several of them ask me questions about certain things they are going thru. I am so glad I can offer them some real advice and they trust me. Tropical Storm Ophelia is churning on the coast, I hope she stays out there. I am so sick of hurricanes. I am ready though, have my camper (30footer) packed and my generator ready to go. Stop for beer somewhere and head inland!! Haha. Check in again in a few months. Life is good

02/14/07:  Happy Valentines Day!!  Gosh, I cannot believe I have not updated my profile in so long.  I feel guilty actually because my life has taken so many positive turns since loosing weight.  I have neglected OH.  I log on almost daily still and lurk around on the message boards just reading the posts and looking at the Question and Answer section.  Of course, being a 5yr post op, I have seen and know the answers to most of the questions seen discussed.  Bad taste in the mouth, lump in the throat, low blood sugar, dizziness, cramps in the legs, purging, plastics, B12 anemia, etc.  Most of these get better with time.

I have put on a few pounds that I would like to get off.  I am at about 171 now.  Would like to see 160.  156 was a little too small and those extra 4 lbs really make a difference in my face.  My extra weight has come from grazing, mostly during Thanksgiving and Christmas 2006.  I will get it back off during the next few months when I start wearing shorts.

I have had a few more surgery's since 2003.  Last August I had thigh surgery from a skin disease called Hidranenitis.  Of course Dr. Mitchell is the only plastics guy I will let touch me!  Then last December 2006, I had my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed (uterus removed in 99).  During the hysterectomy, it was discovered my bowel was "adhered" to my abdomen, posssibly from scar surgery from either RNY of my Bowel Resection that I had done in 2003.  It was a long recovery but am doing fine now.

One word of caution, I like to drink alcohol alot more now.  It seems easier to drink then eat.  I am working through this issue and making progress.  Don't want to go into a whole lot of detail on the internet.  Too many judgemental people out there.

With all that said, life is wonderful and I feel great.

    Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Peter Henderson, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S.
01/13/03: I have not met Dr. Henderson yet, still waiting on BCBS. From what I am reading from others, he will be great ! 01/17/03: Pre-op on Feb 6th, surgery on Feb 11. I will meet Dr. Henderson on the 6th. 02/07/03: Finally got to meet Dr. Henderson. He is straight forward and very professional. I like him....I got an A on the true/false test he makes you take, I got all of them correct! Our visit was quite short because he was impressed with my knowledge of the procedure and the post-op requirements. I have researched and educated myself on this topic for two years. There is ALWAYS something new to learn though, so keep yourself informed ! Anyway, nice man...younger looking in person.
    Insurer Info:
    BCBS FEDERAL
I personally have not had to deal with my insurance company. Dr. Henderson's office has been handling this for me. The only requirement they had was a psyciatric evaluation and a TSH (thryoid) test. I already had both of those so I simply faxed them into Dr. Henderson's office. I am now waiting for them to approve. 01/14/03: Well, I have called BCBS several times now to keep checking on things. They have not gotten to me yet. 10 business days is the average wait. They received the info from Dr. Henderson's office on Dec 27th and the pre-certification dept received it on Jan 3rd. They call it "Utilization Management" department where they handle the pre-certifications. 01/17/03: APPROVED! They approved on 1/14/03.
