I've never been "skinny" but as a youth I was very fit and active in tennis. As I got a little older in my teen years I had to stop playing tennis because I became very top heavy - which makes most athletics very hard.

About the same time I stopped playing sports actively I had to being birth control and like most girls I put on some weight. During my teen years I went through a couple of events that led to further rapid weight gain.

My OBGYN started running tests to find out why or how I could be gaining so rapidly. Turns out that I have hypothyroidism and PCOS. She began treatment and with watching what I ate and meds I lost about 10 pounds, but it came back on within months. She encouraged me for 2 years to have the lap band put in and I finally gave in and went to a doctor. He also said it was the best option for me for weight loss.

I had my lap band surgery December 7, 2009. My weight at surgery was 200. Lost 20 pounds the two weeks before doing the liquid diet. The lowest weight I reached was 160, and 10 pounds of that was due to two viral/bacteria infections I received once returning to work.

I continually had pain from my port location and rarely could finish a meal without getting hung, even after having fluid taken out of my band on multiple occasions. After having two EGD's done it was determined that my band had slipped up and classified as a failed procedure.

My weight slowly crept back up and I am now back at my biggest weight of almost 230 pounds.  August 18th, I begin my journey and on the 25th life starts all over again. I just wish I would have had the bypass instead of the lap band.
