Pending Insurance Authorization

Jan 13, 2011

So today I heard from my surgeon's office that they were waiting for a "Letter of Support" that they had faxed over to my PCP's office. I decided to call my PCP's office and speed up the process, which ended up working in my favor because they apparently had the wrong fax number to my surgeon's office. Once I gave them the correct fax number they said they would fax it over immediately and my surgeon's office should receive in about 10 minutes. So basically,  all my documents will be submitted to my insurance today and my surgeon's office said they should hear something by Tuesday! I'm so excited!

I can't believe that the time is almost here. I have one appointment left - my Pre Admission with the hospital where I will be having my surgery. That's next Wednesday at 1pm. I will definitely be updating when I hear back about my insurance authorization as well as after my last appointment.

Appointments!

Jan 09, 2011

It's hard to believe that I only have 2 appointments left and then it will be time for my surgery! It feels like I've waited so long for this, but the time is starting to pass really quickly. January 28 will be here before I know it.

This past week, on Wednesday, I had my appointment with the Psychologist. I was nervous for this appointment, but it ended up being nothing to worry about. The doctor was super nice and the meeting didn't last longer then 5 minutes! He just basically asked why I was getting the surgery, my family medical history, family life, education status, work status, and if I understood the risks associated with getting the Gastric Bypass surgery. When all was said and done he told me he saw no issues with me getting the surgery and he wished me the best of luck.

My next appointment, which was also on Wednesday, was with the Nutritionist at my surgeon's office. For some reason I was thinking it was going to be with a woman, but it was with a man, not that that matters. He was really nice and super helpful! We went over the meal plan that I will be following after surgery, and basically for the rest of my life. We also went over the supplements that I will need to take for the rest of my life. It's actually not that much, and I'm glad that I can take chewable multivitamins because those are usually big pills.

My daughter, who is 3 years old, doesn't really understand what is going on, but she knows that mommy will be going to the doctor's office and that she will come and see me at the hospital. I talk alot about the surgery with my husband, who is super supportive.

Protein Supplement

Dec 20, 2010

Hey everyone -

So earlier today I posted a thread about my surgeons guidelines for Protein Supplements after surgery and the feedback I got was crazy! It appears that everyone thinks my surgeon is crazy for only saying that I need Protein supplements (like a shake) for the first 2 weeks after surgery and that I won't need it again after that. This concerns me a little bit and makes me a bit nervous, but then I think about how experienced my surgeon is and how long he's been performing bariatric surgeries, and that relieves most of what I'm feeling. I mean he's performed over 4,000 GBS so that makes me feel confident that his guidelines work and that I shouldn't question it and just follow the doctor's orders.

However, to just ease my thoughts, when I go meet with the Nutritionist on January 5, I am going to bring up the Protein topic to make sure I understand everything as I read it, and bring up what other people have been saying about how I need the protein supplement (or just plain protein at about 60g-80g DAILY) for the rest of my life after surgery, and why doesn't Dr. Graber do it the same way and to make sure that I will have enough protein on a daily  basis.

Any thoughts? Anyone else from Dr. Graber's office that has the same concerns?
