Doing Well

Mar 17, 2015

Well I'm now 2 weeks post-op 186 lbs and eating puréed foods which I have to say for me honestly isn't much different from full fluids as I'm not all that good in the kitchen it's just easier to work with what I'm familiar with Oat Bran, Soup with crackers crushed up. Protein Shakes and Greek Yogurt. My treat is fat free, sugar free Jello and trying to drink.at least 6 cups of water a day.

Finally Home

Mar 08, 2015

I came home from Toronto yesterday trip took me 4 hours when it is usually only 2-2.5 hours but with needing to stop to ensure I was eating and drinking it took longer but that is okay with me. I had my first and hopefully last experience with hypoglycemia and have learned my lesson, stop and take the time to eat and don't forget water and snacks when you head out even if you think it's just going to be for a bit because you never know if you are going to get delayed. I think I just over did it on Friday and expended more energy that  I had taken in. It felt awful I was shaky, restless, dizzy, nauseated, drowsy and sweaty. I recognized the symptoms and called the clinic I was advised to drink some OJ and rest and repeat in 15 minutes if symptoms didn't start to resolve and if after 30 minutes there was no improvements go to ER. The 2 doses of OJ helped but I still felt crappy the rest of Friday so I took it easy Saturday and felt much better. I came home yesterday and was greeted by a very excited household. I watched my squidlets go skating, did some grocery shopping and had dinner with my family, I helped bath the boys and put them to bed and it was all so mundane but awesome because I was HOME !!! Thanks to everyone who has sent well wishes and kind words they are very much appreciate :-) OH !!! and I went into surgery at 202 I think she said and this morning I was 189 :-) I started my journey at 236, in March of 2014. The family doctor wanted me to lose 10 lbs before referral 226 on referral date May 2014 and 216 when I started Optifast Feb/16th/2015.

What a mess but I'm alright

Mar 05, 2015

Nausea finally settled in the afternoon on Tuesday and I was able to tolerate my clear fluids. Had an amazing sleep Tuesday night and woke up Wednesday feeling great. No pain, No nausea was given full fluids and able to tolerate that so I was discharged from the hospital around 1pm Wednesday but due to massive freezing rain storms Tuesday night there are power outages all around the area. Surprise Surprise one of the places affected by the power outages is my hotel but not to worry madame says the concierge the power will be back on my early this evening. 6pm still no power back down to see the concierge explaining I was just discharged from the hospital I can not continue to tolerate these conditions room has no heat, no hot water, no power at all, my car is warmer than my hotel room. Concierge reassures my best friend and I they are currently outside working on the affected hydro pole power is to be restored by 10pm midnight at the latest. My best friend goes to the nearest Dollar store and purchased supplies to make heaters she has found instructions for on You Tube and then tucks me in under 6 blankets. I am finally able to fall asleep around 11pm still no power hoping to wake up to warmer temperatures. I wake up at 5AM to go to the bathroom surprise surprise still no power, my best friend has been up most of the night keeping vigil over the make shift heaters to keep the room above freezing temperatures but by 8AM she has had enough. I have been in a room with no heat what so ever for over 18 hours she finally gets the hotel management to agree this is unacceptable and we have been moved to the near by Best Western. I'm exhausted from being cold for so long but otherwise okay. I'm going to enjoy the warmth, have a nap, then some lunch and then a nice warm shower to soak the chill from my body. What a mess the last 24 hours have been but I'm okay, resting and recovering in comfort now.

Day 8 OptiFast

Feb 24, 2015

I'm not trying to brag or diminish how anybody else feels about their difficult experience with OptiFast but I was terrified it was going to be awful and an excruciating experience but it hasn't been. I found peppermint extract and it made this whole experience a breeze for me. I haven't had any side effects and my hunger has been manageable mostly with redirecting my attention elsewhere or grabbing something sugar free. I haven't cheated not once, I'm so proud of myself :-) I'm almost there OMG !!!!! Thank you to everyone who has supported me with kind words and encouragements sometimes the smallest words mean the most. I truly appreciate each and everyone who has taken the time to post. I don't think I say Thank you enough and I hope you will continue to support me as I continue through my journey. 6 days to go it's going to be here in the blink of an eye.

Day 5 of OptiFast

Feb 20, 2015

Well it's day 5 on Optifast and so far no unwanted side effects. I've heard of people having severe headaches, weakness, dizziness, etc.. nothing here phew !!!!! I was worried about trying to work and deal with side effects but I'm good. I have changed my mind I prefer vanilla with peppermint but I can tolerate the chocolate no problem either and I'm getting in at least 1.5 liters of water over and above the amount of water in my shakes. I have come to cherish my 2 cups of veggies at supper time yum yum. Absolutely no cheating and still feeling strong worse was when someone at work brought in homemade cinnamon raisin scones on day 3 OMG !!! they smelled like heaven and my mouth was watering I purposely made myself busy somewhere else till they were all gone. Today I took my girls out for lunch after a dentist appointment and it didn't even bother me I sat there and drank my shake, they both felt bad eating in front of me but I told them it really was okay. Tick Tock Tick Tock and time marches on 9 days to go. I wish I could find a timer app that would countdown the days for me. I'll have to sit down and try to find one again. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend :-)

PATTS today

Feb 17, 2015

Hey everybody How goes it ??? I had my PATTS (PreAdmission Testing and Teaching) through HRRH today. Had a visit with the Nurse, Anesthesiologist, Lab (blood work and ECG) and X-ray (Chest xray). My appointment was for 8:00 am it was crazy busy in there. I didn't even get registered till 9:00 am. Started seeing people about 10:00 am and finished by 1:15. Would have been earlier but I got forgotten about in the xray dept. I patiently waited for an hour and then went back up and politely asked if I was sitting in the wrong waiting room or something because I'd been there for an hour and everyone else had come and gone but me. They apologized for the mix up and took me in immediately. All in all it wasn't bad just a lot of waiting but I wasn't in any hurry anyway. Today was my second day of OptiFast as well. I have decided I prefer chocolate, with a little hint of peppermint and my imagination kinda tastes like mint chip ice cream. I'm doing great so far no cheating here. The doctor I saw today reiterated how important OptiFast is to get the fat around the liver shrunk. He said he understands how hard this is but to stick with. I'm not finding it to bad so far although I'm only able to get 3 shakes per day, I hope it's enough just can't stomach 4 but I'll keep trying.

Started Opti today :-)

Feb 16, 2015

Well I started my Optifast today and I don't find it to bad, but how I'll feel about it after a few days is hard to say right now. Really how I feel about it is a moot point because it is a necessity and must be done regardless of  whether I like it or not. It kind of tastes like uncooked cake batter. The after taste isn't pleasant but like I said tolerable so far. I have tasted both chocolate and vanilla no preference at present. I find it better if I hold my breath as I'm taking a sip. I felt slightly nauseated after the first one but I think I drank it too fast in an attempt to just get it over. I'm just gong to take it one day at a time and try not to look to far ahead sometimes that get to overwhelming. Wish me luck I'm only 13 days away from the losers bench March 2nd here I come Woohoo !!!!!
