I heard a little something.....

Nov 12, 2007

I heard from Connie from the Cleveland Clinic first thing this am.  I was hoping to get a date but she was just calling to ask if I had a chest X-ray because she did not have a copy. Karen, the Nurse, already told me the only thing left that I had to do was get the cardiac clearance on letterhead and not a prescription slip like I had given them.  She had everything else. I FAXED it immediately and she called back to say she had received it. She said she was going to give my file back to Anita (the insurance lady). I know my surgery has been pre-approved by my insurance because Anita already told me and I received a letter from my insurance company. I guess they just have to be sure all the i's are dotted and the t's crossed. That's fine by me.

Still waiting for date......

Nov 11, 2007

Well, I heard from the Nurse last week at the Clinic and she told me the cardiac clearance that I gave her had to be on letterhead and not a prescription slip like I gave them. So I had to call the cardiologist's office and ask them to FAX the same info but on letterhead instead. I don't understand why. Clearance is clearance, isn't it? I called Karen last Friday and left a message to see if she received the clearance on letterhead and hopefully to set a date. Maybe I will hear from someone today. I bought a few more things for post-op. Like Gas-X strips (because I hear I will have gas), Mederma (for scarring), Benefiber chewable caplets (because I hear about constipation) and a nightshirt, robe and slippers for the Hospital stay. I have never spent the night in a Hospital and don't even know if they allow me to bring stuff like that but I'm sure I will find out!

Still waiting to hear from Clinic!

Nov 04, 2007

Well, I'm still waiting to hear from the Cleveland Clinic. I emailed Anita last Thursday to ask if Emily (the Nutritionist) remembered to keep my chart out for the Nurse to review. She emailed me back stating she pulled my chart for the Nurse and I should hear something in the next week. I guess Emily must have forgotten.....I'm glad I called!  I ordered a book online named The Success Habits of Weight-Loss Surgery Patients, along with the Final Success Workbook. I also ordered more "special" biotin shampoo, more vitamins and read-to-drink protein shakes. I also made a grocery list which consists of sugar free popsicles, Crystal Light, sugar free jello and chicken broth. I want to be completely ready. I wanted to put my supplies in a gift basket as if it were something to look forward to like baby shower gifts but I soon realized there will be way too much stuff!

Procedure time is nearing.....

Oct 28, 2007

I have had all of my pre-op testing. The cardiac evaluation, psych, diet, UGI series, chest x-ray, abdominal ultrasound, blood work and an added thyroid biopsy due to many large nodules found on routine exam. I was given a piece of plastic equipment to breath into for 1 week and then I need to use it the week before surgery. I was told to bring it with me to surgery and I would be asked to use it right afterwards. It is something to prevent pneumonia. I had no clue about that. I am just waiting to hear from the Cleveland Clinic nurse to confirm I do not need anything further and I can then schedule the gastric sleeve surgery. I know I will need more blood work, final approval from my primary care doctor, meet with the surgeon and anesthesiologist etc..... But I'm down to the back stretch. I have just ordered my protein shake supply  and vitamins from NashuaNutrition.com (thanks to my friend Marcia). I got free shipping, samples and a free shaker from them. I also ordered Nioxin hair care products from folica.com to help with hair loss after surgery. I got free shipping on that too! (What a wonderful world) I also found out that my insurance will cover 90% of the surgery. My insurance did not cover this procedure when I went for my first consult! I know how fortunate I am. My on-line friend Marcia joked that I will now have money for plastics after all is said and done. I am getting anxious to just get a date and start my 2 week liquid diet. I know that will be hard but I just want to get this over with. I get nervous thinking about it but I can't imagine not being anxious about surgery and the unknown. Hopefully I will hear from the Clinic next week to get the ball rolling again!
