20 weeks post op tomorrow

May 05, 2010

I have finally crossed the 75 pounds lost marker!  Today I weighed in at 248.8, making me sub 250 for the first time since the early 1990's!  And I have a new goal now... I have declared all out war on these next 23.8 pounds, as I really, really, really want to be down 100 pounds at the time of my 6 month follow up appointment at Adirondack Medical Center, which is scheduled for June 28th.  I know I can do it.

It has been a bit of a challenge these last few weeks.  I have been fighting an awful sweet tooth urge and have splurged on ice cream more than I should. I also had to go out of town for the wedding of a cousin and that disrupted my workout routine for about a week.  Plus, there was cake and candy and lots of bad things.  I did not OVERdo it, I just DID it and knew I shouldn't be doing so, and as a result I did have a bounceback of a pound and a half.  So I had t drop that again and then get the head back on track.  I did not have ice cream yesterday at all - or any "bad" stuff.  I have to keep reminding myself that nothing tastes as sweet or as good as dropping this weight is feeling.

I swear by Unjury protein powder!  I have noticed that increasing the protein intake each day really helps keep the weight rolling off.  I plan to have at least three shakes a day during my assault on these next 24 pounds!  I like the vanilla the best because I can add other flavors to it.  I make mine with half and half so I can ramp up the fat intake as well.

I can't believe that 6 more weeks makes it half a year since my surgery already!  Wow, what a wild ride this DS adventure is!

16 weeks and 3 days

Apr 11, 2010

Weight   254.6 today, meaning I have crossed the 70 pound mark!  I am thrilled beyond words.  I am starting to run out of clothes to wear!  I have really ramped up the protein supplements...I have 2 shakes a day now, sometimes three, and I can't help but think that has helped jump start the system.  I don't mind them at all, in fact I really like them so that's awesome.

I cross my legs all the time now when I sit, I had to move the car seat up another notch (that's 4 clicks now since surgery) my sister told me last week that I walk faster and with more energy, and it is so much easier to get out of bed...literally!  My abs are stronger and I can sit up much more easily.  I don't have to flop around or push myself up with my arms any more.

It's working!

14 weeks...

Mar 27, 2010

I finally crossed the 60 pound mark on March 23.  It seemed like it took forever to go from 50 to 60 pounds, and I did suffer through my first real stall during that time.  The scale seems to be moving again now though so that's good, although it does seem to have slowed down.  Of course, some of that may be the result of exercise as well, as I have now been going to the gym almost 2 months and I am sure I am building some muscle. However, I am getting comments all the time now and clothes continue to get bigger and bigger on me so I must be doing something right.

11 Weeks Post-Op

Mar 05, 2010

Weight:  268.6 pounds.  Have lost 56.4 so far, and my BMI has dropped a full 10 points since surgery.

I am a regular at the gym, can now walk a mile or more on the treadmill and have started strength training. I am finding it easier each day to get my protein and fluids in and have decided that UNJURY is my protein drink of choice.

More later..too tired (friday night) to do more now.

YES! I've crossed the 50 pound threshold!

Feb 21, 2010

It took nine weeks and three days but the scale this morning said it loud and clear...274.4!  Fifty and a half pounds gone from my life forever.  I keep visualizing a 50 pound bag of potatoes and realizing how big that is and how heavy that is, and that I have lost that much off of my body.  Amazing thought.  No wonder I feel better!  Next mini-goal: 60 pounds.

Made it to the gym 6 times in the past 7 days.  I am psyched about that.  Today I actually did a whole mile on the treadmill in 20 minutes.  Not bad considering that Feb 1, when I started, I was winded at a quarter of a mile.  I also am finding it easier to swim laps now and don't need to stop halfway to rest. I know I am no world class athlete and that I have to build up gradually, but it is getting easier and I am enjoying it and every minute I am working out at the gym is a 100% improvement from doing nothing.  I am finding the gym membership to be money well spent.

It really is all starting to come together for me now!  Yay!

9 weeks post - op

Feb 18, 2010

Feeling great, energy returning in leaps and bounds now.  Eating almost anything I want, just following the rules and learning to listen to the stomach when it says "I am full."  I am down exactly 49 pounds today...wanted to be at 50 by today but maybe in the next couple days.  That "first 50" threshold seems like a real milestone for me.

Weight today:  276.0

8 weeks Post-Op

Feb 10, 2010

February 11, 2010.  Weight today:  278.0  47 pounds lost!    Next mini goal: fifty pounds.

Had my check up with Dr Hill yesterday, and he is very pleased and said he was proud of me.  I am ahead of the curve on weight loss according to him, at least so far, and his advice was pretty much to just keep doing what I am doing, steadily ramp up the exercise (which I have been doing) and let the DS do it's thing.  I don't have to go back for follow up now until June 21, so that's after school is out and will also be my 6 month evaluation.  Murphy, my PA/PCP extraordinaire went with me yesterday so she could meet Dr Hill and ask questions, etc, and she was impressed.

All in all I am feeling  great.  The increased fat has definitely helped keep the systems moving and so I will try to keep the protein drinks made with at least half and half.

I was told by three people yesterday that "Wow! I am really starting to see a difference." Murphy's husband was especially fun as he had not seen me since before surgery.

Well it took 7 weeks to happen, but...

Feb 03, 2010

Today was the day.  I had my lunch and promptly brought it all back up.  Guess it was just too much too fast because I felt fine before and after the incident.  Live and learn.  I knew it was inevitable.  At least I can say this is the first time I have totally tossed cookies since surgery.  I know a lot of post ops have it a lot worse, so I am grateful.

Gym tonight!  10 minutes on the treadmill, a bit faster than on day one.  Even added a slight incline for a minute.  Slow and steady...  The pool was wonderful.  Easily giving myself credit for 30 minutes of activity.

Weight today: 280.8  BMI dropped below 50 for the first time!  Woot woot!

I am a member of the gym...

Feb 01, 2010

Got the paperwork all done today and tonight went for my first "workout."  I am intentionally going at this slow and steady so I was pleased to do 10 minutes on the treadmill, at a slow, steady pace for now, 3 minutes on the bike, and spent about a half hour in the pool walking laps and working with the noodle. This is a major step forward for me.  Can't wait to go again tomorrow! Weight today: 281.4.

Tomorrow I am joining the gym

Jan 31, 2010

It seemed as good a time as any...February first.  A new month, what better time to start a monthly membership at the fitness center?  I want, more than anything, a safe place to walk.  The sidewalks and streets are too slippery, uneven and public here for my liking, so let me have my enclosed gym and a place to walk safely and I'm good.  Looking forward to the pool, too!

Oh yeah, down to 282.0 today (1/31/10). Possible setback issue from previous post is better today but I was really lightheaded this morning.  Guess I needed more fluids.

Anyway, I feel stronger.  Getting the right amount of protein in surely makes a big and noticeable difference.  Going to order some nectar samples tonight.  Unjury vanilla is not too hard to take.  Progress!
