Days left in the 300 club

Jun 29, 2015

I'm 311 now and have lost more hair than ever. It comes out like crazy when I wash and detangle it. I can just sit there, run my hands through it and some hair will come out. It's everywhere. But it's ok, I have enough for folks not to notice. It's just a little concerning when you have a haircut's worth of hair fall out. My kid checked my scalp and I have no bald patches but my hairline is slightly faded. Not enough for anyone to say I have thin hair. My hair is naturally curly and long.

Some people have been noticing I've lost weight...finally. Friend's of friends, doctors, coworkers, Facebook friends. One of my coworkers mentioned I have lost more in the past 2 weeks. (She was on vacation). I told her that I do eat! I have all kinds of snacks and fruit and my desk. My dad assumed that I would automatically be 200 lighter after the surgery. Tsk, tsk. Had to remind him it will take up to 2 years and it's not liposuction.

I am able to get a lot more liquids down. I have been sneaking back in the carbs but trying to be good. I feel like I'm choking when I eat too fast or don't chew my food well enough and it gets stuck in my esophagus.  That is a scary feeling but it passes each time. Today and I had a 6 oz steak and mashed potatoes. I didn't finish either one but I wanted a taste. I've had an insatiable taste for steak & refried beans. I guess it's the protein that I crave. I am a complete Atkins bar and Premier shake junkie. Premier shakes are low fat, lower in calories and have 40g of protein. Doc says it's ok as long as it doesn't exceed 200 calories a day. He suggested drinking 1 a day. Cosco carries them so it's better to buy a case from them there.

I'm not out of the club yet but I am getting there. I want to be 36 lbs down before my 6 month check up (end of August). I can do it but I have been slacking and creeping carbs back into my diet. I haven't tried a true dessert or sodas and do not wish to. Wish me luck. I will repost when I have left the 300 club. 299 seemed unreachable 4 months ago.

Hair thinning.

May 29, 2015

I've noticed more hair in the drain and brush. It seems to break off rather than come from the root. It's more than usual and I am hoping to counteract this issue. I have not been keeping up with my food diary or protein intake. I have been good. I try to stay away from carbs and sugar. I eat Aktins protein bars and shakes. I hit a mini plateau and was 326 for awhile. After a weekend party, I realized I didn't do too much damage with themy sodium intake as I was down to 323.

Doc told me during my 3 month post op that I was about 6lbs off of target. He said I should be able to lose 55 more in the next 3 months. That is exciting as I wanted to be out of the 300 club by June. Oh well. I'm almost there!

Time to exercise!

May 05, 2015

I had a personal goal to be 100 lbs lighter before the end of the month. I am about 31 pounds off target. :-(

I walked a mile about 2 weeks ago and was so sore after. I am going to kick it up and start doing it consistently. Time to take some ownership of my body! I am taking a shake (Atkins) daily. I also tried their low carb protein bar line w/no issues. It was heavenly.  See you at the end of the month to track my goal. I am going to see where exercise takes me!

Standstill plateau explained!

Apr 27, 2015

I stayed around 340's for about a month or so. I got my monthly cycle regulated and am glad because I have PCOS. For anyone who has had it, they know the struggle. I have lost enough weight for my body to begin functioning normally. I am now 334 of which 10 pounds has been lost in 1 week after the PMS symtoms of bloating have subsided.

I keep forgetting to take vitamins and always carry a shake with me for emergencies. I have not cheated with sweets, limit my carbs and stay away from fried foods and breads. It's a challenge. I did indulge in 2 baked wings. If I find myself in a situation with no healthy options, I try to grab fruit or forgo the carbs. For example, at a football game, I get a breadless hotdog, eat a bite of the meat only and give the rest to my spouse. Key idea is preparing ahead.

Wow.

Apr 03, 2015

Today I am 348. I guess my weight loss is kicking in a higher mode now. I am conatantly trying to find meala and always checking food labels. My doctors office (nutritionist) said I need a shake a day and up to 40g of carbs. I eat cheese with no issues but will never try anything sweet. I eat fruits and am told to be careful because those have sugar. My preference on shakes is Atkins mocha latte.

I am excited. However, I have not implemented a workout regimen. I return to work next week. I can't  believe its been 6 weeks. Wow.

Hiding while dining

Apr 01, 2015

I'm at 353 lbs now. Had my 1 month post op appointment with the doc and he said I was doing well. I asked if I should be losing more and he said no. My stomach no longer spasms as it did the first few weeks when drinking room temperature water. Doc said maybe purified water affected my muscles and intestines?

Most family doesn't notice my weight loss after nearly 50lbs. I find myself pushing my food around on my plate when dining with others. Noone notices since they are too busy in their own plate, which is great. I traveled recently and had a hard time finding suitable snacks. I ate cheese, fruits and would buy chicken wraps and eat the insides. Doc said take a shake a day as I am unable to get 80g of daily protein.

I'm irritated by the lack of food choices everywhere. Today during a banquet, there was only a side salad available as the Italian was loaded with carbs. Thankfully, I found comfort in my salad and the unsweetened tea. I fixed a normal plate of crusted parmesen chicken and pasta with salad and gave 90% of it to my hubby. During a flight in 1st class, they served nothing but carb loaded food and sugary drinks. I had to decline and ask for water only.

Food Experiments and the fluid issue

Mar 13, 2015

I am still on track but have an issue getting my 80g of protein in. I think I need to make a schedule for eating as currently I do it out of need instead of on schedule. Maybe this habit will help me stay on track with my water intake.

I am having issues with drinking my 64oz of water. Sometimes my pouch hurts when I drink water or my powerade zero. Nothing else gas this effect on me. If it's really warm or ice cold, it helps but I haven't figured out what works. At some point, I was chewing on tangerine and apples for the liquid and spitting out the pulp. Also, I had sugarfree popcicles but even at sugarfree, you have to watchout for the small carbs.

I made low carb taco bowls with ground turkey. I bought some low carb wheat tortillas and baked them. I could only eat the turkey and lettuce along with some delicious substitutes like greek yogurt instead of sour cream. The fam liked it so it's a keeper.

At least by making things from scratch, I have control over sugar, carbs and sodium. I Google a lot of recipes and make a lot of fun stuff. Hummus, guacamole, verde salsa, citrus talapia, etc. Going to try a pizza crust recipe that calls for eggs and sourcream. From the reviews, it is work a try. You have to bake it but if not done right, the crust could turn out to be eggy. I bought roma tomatoes and lowfat cheese. Wish me luck!

So far so good

Mar 06, 2015

I'm on soft solids now. I eat tuna, laughing cow cheese and I even ate a low carb enchilada today. Most of the time food feels like it is getting stuck in my esophagus. I'm told to drink warm water like tea beforehand. I do it then and during and it helps. I feel like I'm pigging out but I'm only getting in 500-600 calories. It is a struggle to get my 80g of protein and 64oz of liquids my doc requires. I take all my vitamins including extra calcium, B complex and multivitamin daily. I'm at 362 now, 39 pounds since my pre-op liquids.

At home...what to eat?

Feb 26, 2015

I came home last night. I was relieved when the nutritionist said I could drink creamed soups. So hubby bought Cambells cream of chicken. As long as I strain the chunks out, I can eat it. I sipped about a cup. But I am unsure how much food I can tolerate. I'm not sure if my pain last night was from the surgery or me being full.

Also, I gained 5 pounds from the IV fliuds from the hospital. I'm told this is normal.
