Post Op Visit #2 and Protein

Jun 17, 2009

Sorry it's been so long since my last post. Mama had her second post op visit yesterday afternoon. Everything went well.

The doctor told Mama she can start taking her prenatal vitamins. She has to take two prenatals everyday for the rest of her life. She has to take one prenatal in the morning and one in the evening. The doctor also gave her a prescription for an iron supplement. Her insurance wouldn't cover the first iron supplement prescription.  Why do insurance companies have so much say in who gets what prescription?! Some people really do need the prescriptions despite the costs to their precious little companies and CEO's. The insurance company people aren't doctors, ergo they should have no say in who gets what medications and for what reasons. Hopefully the insurance company will cover this new prescription.

The doctor cleared Mama for three months! So her next post op visit will be in September. Other than that, her post op visit was pretty short. Her home healthcare nurse came by on Monday afternoon. Her home health care nurse said her visits will now be down to once a week. The home health care agency may dismiss her soon because she's doing  so well.

Mama's new diet is all about protein! It is the main element to her new diet. On Monday evening after the nurse left, we went up to the mall's GNC store and bought Mama a protein supplement drink. It's called Max Protein. She got the chocolate flavor. The salesmen gave us a small sample drink of the chocolate. Mama and Dad liked it and said it tastes like a Yoohoo drink. I didn't like it, I though it was nasty.

Today was the first day Mama was able to get into the bathtub since surgery and she can go swimming tomorrow. Yesterday was also third week anniversary of Mama's surgery! Dad and I will be taking new pictures of Mama next Tuesday, for the one  month anniversary. I will keep track of these photos in the scrapbook I'm making of her journey.

I almost forgot to mention, Mama has lost three pounds since last Tuesday! She is down 32 lbs. from her heighest weight of 306 lbs. and down 23 lbs. from her official pre op weight of 297 lbs. She is defiately losing in inches, because the outfit she wore today was tight on her last summer and now it's practically hanging off of her! So I guess Dad and I will be taking new measurements to compare with the ones we recorded the night before surgery.

That's about it for now!
