Hi Everyone! I am a 30 year old medical student who decided to give herself the best birthday present ever - LIFE! I decided that three decades of being overweight and miserable were enough and I am getting the sleeve in a few days (November 4th). By the grace of God, I have been able to get through all the rollercoaster obstacles that kept me from surgery (self-pay, finding time while in med school to get to appointments, ok'ing leave of absence from school for surgery) and I am hopeful that this time, its FOREVER!

I began getting overweight in my early teens.  My father was morbidly obese and I learned such horrible eating habits from him. There were always sodas, sweets, and plenty of unhealthy food for me to snack on.  I remember even at the young age of 11 that I didn't like my body and hoped that I could lose weight during the summer from being on swimteam so that people wouldn't make fun of me anymore. By the end of high school, I weighed over 220. By my sister's wedding in 2003, I weighed around 240. I went through trainers and gyms, losing 45 lbs and hitting 195. Then.....medical school accepted me!!! While the dream of my life was coming true, the pounds crept back on and I regained all I lost. So, now that I have an opportunity, I am ready. The rest of my life awaits me post-op!
