Question:
Were your plastic surgeries this costly?

I met with a well known plastic surgeon today that has an excellent following and reputation in Encino, CA. I know he has many celebrities as patients. Here's what he quoted me for his fees which include using his surgicenter and not a hospital: Tummy tuck with muscle work $7300 Mastoplexy & Augmentation with saline $7300 (+$1000 if silicone) Brachioplasty and lateral thigh lift together $12,200 +$600 fee for overnight aftercare with a RN at my bedside for 24 hours. Your opinions/comments would be appreciated.    — Vicki S. (posted on September 11, 2003)

I just saw a PS in WI the other day and he quoted me $5000 for a panniculectomy, $7000 for an abdoninalplasty (tummy tuck with miscle work). We ended up thinking a belt lipectomy might be the best for me but he did not give me a cost, but I'm guessing $9000-10,000. I would also need a 2nd procedure, which I'm not sure has a name. Sort of like the upper half of an abdoninalplasty, because of the extensive work on the lower half and trying to not kill all of the blood supply. He said the two procedures could be done like 2 months apart. He just recommended enough time for the blood supply to regenerate to the first remodeled area, before we mess it up with the upper half. The upp portion would run in the $4000 range. I believe most people have posted in the past that a brachioplasty runs from $2900 to $4500. The PS I saw said he prefers not to do thigh lifts as the results are never as pleasing as other procedures. The cuts in the groin are dificult to heal etc. That's why I am thinking the belt lipectomy would be good for me as it works on pulling up the upper thighs and butt, which should probably be enough for me in relation to the legs. The $12,200 sure seems high but I really do not know. This is one area I don't think you want to go bargain basement shopping. Doesn't mean you have to pay the most either. Just find the right surgeon you are comfortable with and live with what he charges.

First of all how many of these patients, celebrity or otherwise were WLS people who have similiar probs as you? Just because he's pricey doesn't mean he's what you're looking for. If you want to find cheaper prices look to a place that is less afluent. I'm not talking bottom basement bargain like the only cheap one out of a bunch of expensive ones but finding an area that is cheaper across the board. Many, many celebrities go to Brazil and countries of that nature because they have excellent docs & awesome exchange rates. If you're wanting inside the US & aren't afraid to travel I'd check around for area with lower pricings in general, I believe you're in one of the more spendy ones. If you're not afraid of MX being outside the US there are excellent docs there that charge only a fraction of the costs that a US doc does. I know when I had my tummy surgery (like a lipobeltecomy or lower body lift without the inner thighs being done) I paid like $5000 total (and got some lipo in that cost to boot). Here in the US to do not nearly the amount my doc in MX did they wanted $20,000. And truly I believe I got a much better result for finding an awesome doc even if I did have to travel. So just letting you know that costs can vary widely & you have options, if you're open to them.

Sounds about the same costs as here in Ann Arbor, Michigan. My brachioplasty and breast implants only (no lift) was $8,700. I thought complete abdominoplasties were around $12,000.

Rates will vary widely with geographic area. I live in NC, and my surgeon's fee for an anchor-incision panniculectomy was $3000, and his fee for the brachioplasty was $3500. There was an additional $1000 charge for anesthesia, medications, and an overnight stay in the hospital. My primary and secondary insurance providers (Acordia and CIGNA PPO) covered the surgery. Best wishes!

I had my abdominoplasty done at the hospital. The hospital cost alone was $11,000!!! My surgeon's fee was $4200 and the anesthesiologist was $1100. For my modified brachioplasty, the surgeon's fee was $3600 ($1800 for liposuction and another $1800 to cut off the excess skin), the surgery center was another $1000 and the anesthesiologist was another $700. I also asked him for a quote for a thigh lift and he quoted $4200 for his fee and I figured out for the surgery center and anesthesiologist it would be another $2000. I also asked about a breast lift and his price was $4200 so add another $2000 for the surgery room and anesthesiologist. So I would say if this is all inclusive (his fee, surgery room and anesthesiologist) then the fees are right about what I've paid and been quoted and I live in Columbus Ohio!!! Trust me, Columbus is MUCH less costly to live in then California so if he's that good, then your probably getting your money's worth.

I don't think that it sounds the least bit "pricey". I just had to have a breast lift with augmentation, my skin was very loose and nasty, and this procedure alone was 8300.00.

Vickie . . .we live in CA, everything is more expensive here -lol...however, I live in San Bernardino area and just had extensive Abdominoplasty with Hernia repair and bi-lateral brachioplasty. This required a 2 night stay in the hospital and my total bill was $19,000. And this was with an extremely reputable sureon in Redlands CA. HIs waiting list for a consult is 4 months long. Good luck!

I just went for a consult with a well regarded plastic surgeon here in Dallas Tx. He quoted me $8000 for a belt lipectomy, or $6900 for abdomnioplasty with muscle tightening. This was in his surgical center, and it will cost me $500 per night for an RN to attend to my needs.

I was straight self pay. My surgeon is one who considers this reconstructive surgery and gives us a big break. I went to one surgeon for a quote on a brachioplasty and mastopexy. She quoted me around $10,000 for everything. I went to the surgeon I ended up with and he charged $4,900. That was his fee of $3,500. and the anesthesia and hospital (it was same day surgery). Try to find someone with experience in weight loss reconstructive procedures. I feel extremely fortunate after reading these replies.
