Question:
What do these tests mean?

I had labs done last week and my doctor has a system where I can go online and see the results of my tests before my next appointment. This is what my blood test last week reads: "CBC NORMAL. RHEUMATOID FACTOR NORMAL. ESR ELEVATED. C-REACTIVE PROTEIN ELEVATED." Does anyone know what an "ESR Elevated" and a "C-REACTIVE PROTEIN ELEVATED" mean? It was a test ordered by my orthopeadic surgeon. Thanks!    — Shayna T. (posted on March 5, 2004)

Go to www.webmd.com and they have a section that is for test and you can look it up there. I find this site very helpful and explains so we nonmedical people can understand. Nancy

For C-Reactive Protein: <p> http://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/crp/test.html <p> Looks like its a test to check for inflammation. <p> For ESR <p> http://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/esr/test.html <p> Looks like another test to check for inflammation. Do you have joint problems? Is that why you are seeing an orthopod?

I know that ESR is a test that reflects inflammation in your body somewhere. I have lupus and when my diesease is active my ESR (sedimentation rate) is high. It can be infammation of any kind, tissue, joint (arthritis), anemia, colitis, etc. C Reactive Protein also indicates inflammation in the body. Hope this helps some! Good luck!
