Question:
Shin Splints in Chest area?

This might be a strange question, but can a person get what is called "shin-splints" in your chest? I am 3 weeks post-op, have had "no" problems at all, until now.... and this is not really a problem, more like a "bother". Up above my suture line, right on my breast bone, I have started experiencing little needle stinging like things. Not a pain at all, just a little prickly feeling. Has anyone else had this? It started just "after" I had visited with my Dr. (go figure) and he said everything looked perfect! I don't know what this is or why it has just started....could it just be the muscle inside tightening back up from surgery? I know we are not medical professionals here, but I would love to here ya'll opinion on this!! Thanks in advance! Love and Light,    — medium (posted on December 14, 2002)

What you describe could possibly be what they call 'Chest Wall Pain'. It is where the muscle in your chest 'pulls'. When I worked in the ER several years ago, this was a common diagnosis. Maybe you moved in a way your body is not used to after being restful for post-op reasons, and this pulled the muscle there. I should add that chest pain is not something to mess around with. This is something that you should be discussing with your doctor. I'm in no way trying to diagnose your symptoms. Hope you figure out the cause and feel better.

Cheri, Thank you for your response...and just to clarify, it's not "chest pain" as far as "inside" if you know what I mean. I would absolutly have gone to the Dr. by now..... It's like "right under the skin" on top of my chest, pain! lol....What you described sounds like what it could be, because it acts just like shin splints and that is when the muscle in the shin area pulls away from the bone when running on hard surfaces and such..... I thank you for taking the time to help me! Love and Light,

It may be nerve healing that you are experiencing. Patients often have a "pins and needles" type feeling above and below an incision as things are healing.
