Question:
What is causing pain just under where ribs join together?

I have been having pain when I eat, though not every time I eat. I feel it right under the center of my ribcage, right under my bra band. It feels like there is a fist-sized lump just sitting there. Sometimes it gets very painful, and I feel the lump in the back, under my bra-band. It does NOT radiate around my right side. Although papaya enzyme helps, it does not feel like food is stuck in my stoma. I've also been having terrible problems with gas lately. I do plan to talk to my doctor, but was wondering if this sounded like gallbladder or anything else specific to someone.    — Beth S. (posted on March 23, 2003)

It sounds like you are describing exactly where your pouch is. Are you overeating or eating too fast? That happens to me if I eat too fast or a little too much. It also happens if something i eat has too much fat. Higher fat stuff can be really uncomfortable in my pouch even if I only eat a little of it.

I'm in the same boat - 4 weeks out and you are describing precisely where the pouch is. Your gallbladder is farther over to the right, just below the ribcage. I'll be contacting my surgeon tomorrow also. This started yesterday and have been doing awesome with eating and drinking until then. ~Renee

Beth, you are describing the pouch. As an early post-op, if I overate or just ate something that disagreed with the pouch, I would get that pain, and sometimes it could be very intense. Even at 13 months post-op, I will still get it on occasion if I misjudge the amount/consistency of what I am eating. Just note what foods/amounts you are eating when you get that pain, and eat less of it next time, and perhaps a little slower.
