Question:
I have a question about bowel movements...

I have another questions...This is kind of embarressing, but I have to find out what is happening to me!! I have started having green bowel movements. I am not or have not eaten any green veggies, either! I am starting to freak out! lol... They started out lime green, and have gotten darker to a dark, broccoli color. Does anyone know what is going on?? Thanks!    — Sharon H. (posted on January 14, 2002)

Bile...or grape juice...don't ask me how I know...it is just too embareassing that I should know all this BM stuff...

Okay, let's talk about a "stupid" mom....ME! My oldest daughter came out of the bathroom one night almost hysterical because she too had green bowel movements. At first I was afraid and freaked then figured that at 16 she was just pulling a fast one on me. Nope. After further interrogation, I found that this was true and she wasn't kidding. I started out for the emergency room really really afraid of what they might tell me until I remembered that she had drank green kool-aide that day. Could this be the culprit? sugar free koolaide? How long has it been this way? days? or just today? I would bet that it is "something" that you ate if it's just today. And no, I won't ask either how she knows all about BM's because I too, hate to admit what an expert I have become!

I agree with Merri... about the grape juice...if you are drinking kool-aid, grape juice, or popcycles because of the dyes they use - it goes in purple but comes out green - go figure?!?

When my oldest son was a toddler, he would have green bowel movements whenever he had too much nutrasweet. Are you eating a lot of sugar free foods/drinks? Just a thought...Shelley

Sometimes the iron in your multi-vitamin can cause a greenish tint to a BM. This happened to me when I started taking my pre-natal vitamins and I asked the OB/GYN and that's what he said.

I also had them quite frequently and urgently. This lasted for six months and has now subsided. I even had a colonoscopy because my WLS said it was stomach bile. Hang in there - it may just go away.
