You might try having some pizza with your family but eating the cheese & sauce. Not sure what protocol you are on as many physicians are different but having been on food at the point you are, I was attempting pizza but found the crust presented digestion problems so I would have sauce with melted cheese...mmm...best part anyhow. You also could make some mini "pizzas" on crackers and put them under a broiler. They were great and had no problems with crackers. My best to you.

I can eat "normal" pizza with no prob. I don't eat the top crust which use to be my fav. I also can only eat one small piece. Which is fine with me because sometimes you just have to have what you crave.

I am still pre-op but one of my favorite "pizzas" to eat is one where you use a portabella mushroom as the crust. Take the stem off cook it first (I do it under the broiler with some balsamic vinager). Place it stem side up on the brolier pan and add your sauce, cheese and what ever else you like on pizza and place it back under the broiler until the cheese is bubbly. You don't even miss the bread.

Hi Debbie -- To satisfy pizza cravings, I take a tortilla shell (soft kind), cover it with pizza sauce, add mozarella-flavored tofu cheese (protein), and then turkey pepperoni. It's not a traditional pizza, but it keeps the bread-and-fat factors very low.

When I crave pizza I eat it. If you are new post op then go for thin crust. If not, just eat it regular.

ohhh, that portabella mushroom pizza sounds GOOD!!! I will have to try it. As for me, I eat pizza. A small amount, none of the top crust, and I do fine. I try and buy pizza with thin crust, and crispy crust is even better. Good Luck!!

I eat pizza. I have never made my own pizza, I rarely cook. But I do like Pizza Hut's thin crust, I add some meats for protein ad the cheese has protein. I used to love the pan pizza but now the thin crust goes down better. Now I just eat one slice instead of half a pizza.

Your still a fairly new post-op, but far enough along that you could try a slice of thin crust pizza. Most of us can eat a slice of pizza, but usually no more than that. For some reason, pizza is one of the foods that I have lost a taste for since surgery. It smells good, looks good, I take a slice, but 2 or 3 bites later, it just doesn't taste the same. Now I just wish it was that way with chocolate! At your stage you should not be worrying about fat. If it has meat and cheese on it, it has protein.

I was craving pizza SO badly and gave in and ordered a thin crust one. Smelled SO good when I got it, I only had 2 bites.....it tasted awful (and it was my favorite pre-op pizza). So I would suggest you try it, you are only going to get a few bites in before you are full anyway. You may not even like it anymore, I know that I won't be eating it any time soon, since it tasted so bad to me. Remember, we did not have this surgery to always feel "deprived", we have a tool that will help us moderate our eating. As long as your surgeon deems it "safe", try it!! Good luck...>Renee D

Funny you should mention this...I just had my first slice of NY Pepperoni Pizza last night. I am 12 wks post-op. I ATE THE WHOLE THING....And before someone gives me attitude about it, I work out 5x/week and I even dropped 1/2 lb yesterday! It was delicious and a little treat. But, I will only eat 1-2X/month now instead of 3-4X/wk as I did post-op.

I admit that I eat pizza quite a bit...I don't eat nearly what I did pre op, but I do eat it. My suggestion is that you stick to plain cheese pizza to start out with...I say that because pre op I would eat an entire pepperoni pizza...now, I hate pepperoni pizza...I eat either plain cheese or green peppers and onions...but pepperoni...eeewwww!! Go figure. Have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~

I like to take a bagel, slice of a round of it fairly thin, add your toppings of choice and bake. Very good!

hiya. 5 weeks post op seems a little early to eat pizza (i'm thinking about the crust)... but prolly if you chew super good you should be ok. i've been eating pizza since about 6 months post op and eat 1 slice of thin crust and dip it in ranch dressing with no probs. but here is a recipe for "crustless" high protein pizza that i thought was pretty good: Deep Dish Pizza 4-oz cream cheese, 2tbls Jarrows Iso Rich Soy Protein Powder 3 eggs 1/3-cup cream 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/2 tsp. oregano 1/4 tsp. garlic powder 2 cups mixed Italian cheese 1/2-cup pizza sauce 1 cup of mozzarella cheese Pizza toppings of your choice: pepperoni, ham, onion, green pepper, mushrooms, bacon, browned sausage or seasoned ground beef Additional parmesan cheese for topping Preheat oven to 375. Beat together cream cheese, protein powder and eggs until smooth. Add cream, parmesan cheese, and spices and mix again. Spray oblong casserole dish with PAM. Sprinkle 2 cups Italian cheeses into dish and pour egg mixture over it. Bake at 375 for about 15 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes. Spread on pizza sauce, sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and pile with your favorite toppings. Then sprinkle with more parmesan cheese. Return to oven and bake until bubbly and browning. Allow to stand 10 minutes before cutting. ________________________________ you can sub low fat cheeses but i don't have a prob with them so i use regular and the Jarrow's Iso Rich Soy Protein powder is great because it's the only kind of protein supplement you can cook with - and it's flavorless! (woohoo!) i have bunches of more recipes if you want some just let me know. [email protected] {{hugs}} kate open rny 6-14-01 pre op: 268lbs goal: 135lbs current: 126lbs

don't have a recipe but nov readers digest has a great article on fast food list the 10 best choices for a meal if that is where you are going to eat. One of the top ten for best choices for health is the following. Domino's classic hand tossed with ham, 2 med slices has less than 398 calories,12 grms fat with 5 grms of saturated fat, 990 sodium. Satasfy the craving with the real thing and that sometimes works better than a substitute. Also, scrape the topping and leave the crust and that may satisfy your craving also. I usually keep a package of the bagel bites in my freezer are nice to pull out and satisfy, also, I think it is red baron that has 2 small deep dish frozen pizza and I will do them sometime. It also suggest that if you are a meat pizza person, by changing to ham over sausage or beef, you cut out a tremendous amount of fat.

For my pizza craving I toasted a piece of bread (I heard that regular bread balls up in the tummy so I toasted it so it wouldnt be soggy), then put on a little spaghetti sauce and topped it with cheese. You could add whatever you want and pop it in the oven for 5 min or so and you have pizza for 1....the serving is limited so there is no chance to cheat. It is not exactly the same, but it satisfies my pizza craving.

PIZZA.. Oh ya!!! I love pizza. (smile) My recipe for post-op pizza is as follows... I eat it all the time! VERY YUMMY.. First get a round cake pan,Because if the cheese bubbles over it stays in the pan.. place a thin small soft tortilla in the pan, top with a teaspoon or two of pizza sauce, then I use the turkey Pepperoni (Yummy) and low fat too! Then I top with low fat Mexican cheese or mozzarella or both.. I get my protein requirements and my cravings are satisfied too! Oh yea. cook on 425 degrees till light brown and bubbly! Enjoy..
