Question:
When do the stomach aches go away?

I have been having stomach aches for about two weeks now not bad but aggravating. If I drink a gulp of water it hurts also. I have been on the liquid diet my doctor perscribes up to 4 weeks post op. I can hardly stand them now as they taste so sweet. Will the aches go away soon? Other then that I feel fine. My other question is how do you know when you are full. I can drink a whole cup of cream soup in about 20 minutes. Should I measure what I eat so I won't overeat?    — Carol H. (posted on June 14, 2003)

First, I don't think you can overeat on liquids. But it does sound to me like you might be drinking to quickly. You mentioned gulping - gulpiing is not good shortly after surgery. You should sip. And when you have soup, do you drink it or do you eat from a spoon. Try eating your soup with a spoon - that will slow you down some. You really shouldn't be hurting unless you are drinking too much too fast. Liquids will go right through the pouch but it is swollen now and if you gulp you are causing pressure.

Hi, I am now 4 and1/2 mths. post-op and sometimes I too have stomache aches while I am eating or drinking something, My doctor told me to take some mallox or some kind of antacid to help before ya eat cuz it is acid build up in your tummy that is causing it to hurt, so I suggest to try that. Good Luck!
