Question:
Any women around 5' tall 265 lbs out there?

Hi everybody! Thanks for reading my post! I am 23 yrs old waiting for auth for lap distal RNY. So far most of the postings I have read explained the experiences of tall, or average height women. i wanted to know if any other 'smurfettes' out there had a unique experience as far as how quickly they lost, or with excess skin problems, because I think being short contributes to that for me because I don't have a tall frame to support all my excess weight, i already have stretch marks on my legs and arms. Please let me know if you have any input or email at [email protected]. THX!!!    — mistyclapp (posted on January 9, 2003)

I am 5'2" and 8.5 months post-op. I started at 289 and I am down to 177 for a weight loss of 112 pounds so far. I have also lost 80.5 inches and have gone from a size 28 to a size 14. Feel free to check out my before and after pictures at the following link http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&uid=844404&gid=1518746& ... I still have 50 more pounds to lose, but the difference so far is already amazing!

i am 5 foot barly 1 inch :) depends how high i curl my hair up hahah i started at 265lbs, and in 11 months have lost 105lbs,, i am so happy i had this done, my only regret is not having it sooner!!!! i do have to have a panniectomy and abdominalplasy at the end of jan, for excess skin , and i have a large stomach apron, tho i had it before, now it really just hangs and looks gross, so i cant wait to have it removed..but to me , those are small things, compared to how great i feel, and all the changes ,,, good luck, any other questions feel free to email me

HI, I am 5'2" I am 13 month post op. I started at 280 and now I am 160. I now wear a size 10-12. If I would exercise I would be down more. So now I am exercising to lose the rest as I would like to be a size 6-8. Good Luck.

Hi Misty, I am 5'2" tall (short?) and starting weight was 277 (on my scale day of surgery). I am down to 185, lost 92 lbs, and I am 11 months post-op (1 year = 1/31/03). I consider my weight loss SLOW and would have liked to lose more, more quickly. However, I am VERY happy that I had this done, because I had never lost 92 pounds before!! Only kept gaining, gaining, gaining! I have discovered that I have to watch my carb intake (try to stay less than 20g per day), exercise 5 days per week, and STOP grazing (eating small things all day long). At this point, I can take in a lot more than I could immediately post-op, so that makes it hard too. I repeat though, this is the BEST decision I ever made and my only regret, as others have said, is that I didn't do it SOONER! Good luck!

5'1", 262. Distal RNY (open) 10/5/94. 150 lbs lost that haven't found me yet. I lost more slowly than others, but it's stayed gone, so far.

Hi Misty, I am 4'11" and I started out at 270lbs, I had my surgery in May 2002 (8 months ago) I have lost 100 lbs so far. I would like to lose about 40-50 more pounds. I feel great. I went from a size 24/26 to 12/14 so far. This is the best thing I have ever done. I am 31 years old and have my whole life ahead of me with my hubby and two young children. Sherri

Hi Misty, I'm 3 months post op and have lost 48 lbs since surgery, 63 lbs from my all time high of 270 (I dieted for the 4 months before surgery and lost a whopping 16 lbs!). I'm 5'2" tall and 42 years old. I don't know if everyone who is this short will have skin hanging problems, but I know that I do! I had a C-section in 1982 and have had an apron ever since. I carried most of my weight in my stomach and it is really hanging. I also have globs of hanging skin on the insides of my thighs and under my arms. I'm fortunate in that I never carried a lot of weight in my neck, so don't have any hanging neck skin (aka turkey waddle). I'm expecting to need some plastic surgery after I reach and maintain my goal weight of 135 to remove my panni and a mastopexy to move my breasts back up where they belong. I've lost weight more slowly at other times in my life and I didn't have the thigh or underarm skin problems - maybe you'll be lucky and have great skin! Good luck to you!
