Question:
Need to find good WLS Doctor in East TN or Northeast Georgia

I don't believe TN has a system to let the public know about WLS doctors like some other states do. Just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions as to doctors known to have good reputations and who has performed many surgeries successfully.    — Joann L. (posted on March 21, 2003)

this site has a wonderful page to research doctors from your state. Click on the "find a doc" link at the top of any page (sometimes it's called "surgeons")Follow the instructions and you will get a list of surgeons in Tenn. Click on the view comments and you will get information posted by members of this site. You can even e-mail them your specific questions about their surgeon. There is also insurance info there. I am not aware of any bariatric surgeons in the Chattanooga area, but I know there are some in northeast Tennessee. My surgeon is in Nashville and I recommend him highly, Dr. Doug Olsen. Also recommend Dr David Dyer, both at Centennial Medical Center which has a Center for the Treatment of Obesity. I have family in north Georgia and I know that there are a lot of post ops in the Calhoun area. Check out "PEERS" on this website and you will find lots of folks in these areas who have had WLS and there will be criiques of their surgeons. Good Luck!!!!

Dr. J.K. Champion in Marietta, GA, is one of the founding bariatric surgeons in the US, specializing in laparascopic WLS. He has performed approximately 1400 lap WLS, is internationally renowned by his peers, and has patients who fly in from all over the US for his services. His web site is www.drchampion.com and information/admission packets can be requested from the web site or his office at (770)425-5525). Five of us in my family have had lap RNY surgery with this exquisite surgeon....BMIs ranging from 43-70....and each of us had beautifully uncomplicated surgeries and post-op courses. Our operating times ranged from one hour to one hour/ten minutes...no ICU...no tubes/drains...and back to work full-time in 8-14 days. Every patient's situation can differ, but we all felt extremely fortunate to have found this surgeon. Best wishes in your search!
