I'd demand answers from my DR. He needs to check you out becasue at 5 mo it is NOT normal to have pain. Best of luck hon.

oops, I just saw the BACK pain, I was reading too fast and thought pain from surgery.... Have you tried a chiropractor? The do wonders with diagnoising and treating back pain. I wouldn't go to one that sets up a huge schedule however. If no results in about 6 visits I'd see an ortho for eval.

The fast loss changes how we carry ourselves, and it takes time for the body to adjust. I got to goal in 6 months and had back pain for most of a year, its pretty common. Do call your surgeon and see your PCP muscle relaxer pills can help a bit. Check it out but dont panic its pretty common

Please see your doctor to rule out anything serious. I had back pain, a dull ache, which turned out to be constipation. I was having regular BM's, but the X-ray showed constipation. I saw three different doctors to get that answer! One said that it was sore because I was getting over the flu, another said that my gallbladder was acting up. Finally me Endocrinologist diagnosed me, at first she thought it may have been kidney problems, so she ordered urine, blood tests and X-rays. I an adding colace and benefiber to my daily regimen. I am so happy that it was not serious. Take care. Allison

I just returned from seeing my doctor because of back pain, test were done and she believes that it's because of the fast wt loss and my hanging apron and breast. I do notice that my posture when standing and walking seems to have me leaning forward. so I do believe this is what's causing my backache.

I had some pretty serious back pain as I was losing quickly. My doctor said it was from the readjustment to such a rapid change in weight. I had been in a car accident just prior to WLS surgery so I had an MRI and everything was fine so I now agree with my surgeons assessment of the situation. I am 15 months out now and at or very near goal for the last 4 or 5 months and the back pain has completely disappeared. It used to get really severe with every 20 pounds I lost and then fade for a week or two until I lost the next 20. I too would make sure there is nothing really wrong but I have met numerous people who have had the very same experience.

Between 3-9 months post op I had terrible back pain/muscle pain and my doc said it was because of the shift in my weight loss. I took lost of tylenol and hot showers and finally after loosing about 75 lbs it passed. good luck

Most of my back problems alleviated when I started running. I was on muscle relaxers and all kinds of stuff to help with the pain in the large muscles of my back. An MRI showed arthritis in my lower back. As long as I run every day, I don't even have to take anything for it on most days. And I'm even beginning to enjoy the running--kind of a rush when it's over.
