Question:
To anyone having surgery at Shelby Memorial in Alabaster, AL -

I am interested in finding out what kind of nursing care anyone received at Shelby Memorial. I realize Dr. Stahl is excellent but I am more concerned about the nursing care, etc. Please give me some feedback!    — Helen P. (posted on May 31, 2001)

Hi, while I don't live in Alabama, I did a little research for you. Go to the "find a doc" link at the top of any page and click on "browse the list" then click on your state. Dr. Stahl is one of the surgeons listed. If you click on "view comments" you will see a listing of members that have used this surgeon and their comments. Also listed is their e-mail address. This may be a better way of contacting more people with your specific questions. I am sure that most people that you e-mail would be happy to give you their opinion of the hospital and its care. Hope this helps.

I had my open rny with Dr. Sherer (Dr Stahl's partner) at Shelby on May 15, 2001. I was placed on the womens surgery floor because the regular surgery floor was full. I have been in 3 different hospitals since 1999, and Shelby's nursing staff was fabulous. The room's are kinda small and often hot so make sure you take a little fan. My nurses were very supportive and helpful. It was also cool that I could take my strolls down the hall and see all the new babies because the new mommies were just around the corner. I can say I did have one day time nurse that wasnt as attentive as the rest of them but I only had her for one day. My favorite nurse was the night nurse Vicki she was real abrupt and I first thought she was a real witch but after a few times moving and getting up I was so thankful for her being persistent. Hope this helps.

I had my surgery at Shelby Baptist on 08/21/2001. Let me tell you that I had the most excellent & attentive nursing staff ever. I was in a private room, and seeing others experiences, it is the only way to go. I think I was in room 227, right by the nurse's desk. I have seen others on the other side of the hall that did not have as "excellent" of service, but don't know of any bad things. Just annoyances. I loved my nurses, they made me get up, answered any calls & had wonderful personalities. I would highly recommend Shelby to anyone based upon my experiences. Stahl is a very talented surgeon. I would definately recommend him. Good luck to you.

Just had surgery at Shelby Medical Center and couldn't have had better care. I too was concerned about the hospital since I had lived in Shelby County most of my life and had not always heard good things. My nurses and techs were fabulous. I was well taken care of and had a wonderful surgery (if surgery can be wonderful). I had it on 7-28-02 at 7:00 a.m. and was up and walking about 6:00p.m. that same day. Home by 1:00 on Sunday. Highly recommend it!
