Question:
I need help on finding a statistic...please help me.

I remember coming across a statistic stating that with traditional weight loss attempts and regular excercise only result in an average weight loss of 30% of excess weight. It also stated that 95% of those who lose this weight will gain it back and then some. Can someone tell me where I can find it again?? I've been searching everywhere and can't find it. I want to include this with my appeal letter that I plan on sending off this weekend. I would really appreciate it, Thanks!!!    — Morna B. (posted on November 19, 2002)

I agree, that was a great book with so much easy to read info. I was totally blown away by that same statistic and then mad that I had ever been sent home from the doctor's office with a diet in hand! I wish more people would read that book. I gave it to family members who had questions about what I was doing.

There is a book by Louis Flancbaum, MD, I think the name is something like The Doctor's Guide to Weight Loss Surgery. He states a statistic that WLS is the ONLY documented way to successfully lose a large amount of weight and KEEP IT OFF! Good luck with your appeal. It is in the first or second chapter, I believe.
