Question:
What could this pain be?

I am almost 7 weeks post-op Open RNY (down 44 lbs). I've been pain free since about a week after surgery, just the usual aches associated with any surgery. Last night, I wasn't feeling so hot after trying a new food, and ended up dry-heaving (sorry about that visual!) and had a sudden, sharp pain in my stomach - just above and to the left of my belly button. It hurts still today, but doesn't feel like there's a lump there. Should I be worried? Should I wait a couple of days and see if it goes away (maybe I overdid it?). I hate calling the doctor if its nothing...    — sssuzie1 (posted on May 15, 2002)

When ever I overdo it I go back on the clear liquid diet for 24 - 36 hours and it seems to help . If you have any bad feelings you should call your Dr. That's what they are there for.-- Good Luck

I had the same problem when I was 8 wks post-op. I had been outside sitting on the grass. When I got up, I immediately felt a pain. It got increasingly worse over a few days..but only hurt when I moved a certain way, or laid down, or used my stomach muscles. I talked to other wls friends and the doctor's office and found out that I had likely pulled an internal suture. I was told to rest, don't lift anything, and take it easy for a few weeks. (I tried, but still had to work and take care of the kids!). It was bad for several more days but eventually it healed up and the pain went away. I no longer have any problems with it. I hope this helps!

I've had some new pains too (5-weeks / 1 day out) ~ I'm absolutely convinced he put my new pouch somewhere in the back - around my bra strap buckle. When I get a pain after eating, it's normally there that it feels better if someone rubs it. It's the big joke around the house - if I need my belly rubbed...my children/husband rub my back. :) Weird, huh? I think they re-wired us - try not to worry about it, if at all possible - if it's something serious, I truly believe we'd know it without our own bodies. Good luck w/it.
