You'll get used to it... but yeah forever... it's really not that bad, and I am ashamed of how I used to eat...

Remember the first few months are the toughest! 4 weeks out I think I was still doing soft food, slimfast, soups, and sugar free pudding. I had to force myself to eat anything at all. I remember the first few months not chewing well enough and the end result would be to throw up. When your tummy heals everything will be alot easier. I certainly am not aware of my chewing at this point. There are times I catch myself swallowing a big piece of something and I think "uh oh!" then nothing happens so I guess all is well in time. I am 10mos post-op. It only gets better!

I think we will always have to -- to an extent, however, the months that you have to chew chew chew causes you to get into the habit of it and you no longer have to think about it so much.

And once you get the chewing down; you will not know any other "way"..... so when something slips through unchewed- it is odd, it may cause you to be uncomfortable etc.

Hi Gary - I'm 5 1/2 months post op. It does get easier. I'm still always very causious, but it's nothing like the first 2 or 3 months. There are certain things (like chicken breast) that I had last night, that I had to chew, chew, chew. However, steak I can eat without chewing it to death. You do become less consious of it in time, and you just sort of get used to it. Hang in there guy!
