Question:
Need help finding chewable calcium citrate

I've lookes through the question library and can't seem to find where to get chewable calcium citrate. All the Citrical is tablets/capsules and that seems to be all that I can find. I am pre-op and unless I am misunderstanding, we have to use chewable vitamins (or liquid, which I can't tolerate. I've been to Vitalady and GNC websites and can't seem to find it there either. I've looked in Walmart and several drugstores. Any other ideas?    — Denise B. (posted on July 28, 2003)

Upon the suggestion of my nutritionist, I have been taking Tums EX - 2 pills a day, twice a day.

I get my calcium citrate in chewable form (tastes like a mint) from www.bariatricadvantage.com. They specialize in products that are fine tuned to meet our malabsorption needs. They were highly recommended to me and I haven't been disappointed and my lab results remain in the normal range. Give them a try.

Hi...you can get the Twinlab Chewable Calcium Citrate wafers at your local Vitamin Shoppe store or through the Vitamin Shoppe website at http://www.vitaminshoppe.com. You can also go out to Twinlab's web site (http://www.twinlab.com) and there is a link to tell you where Twinlab products are sold in your area. <p> To the previous poster who is taking Tums EX...if you had an RNY, you are taking the *wrong* type of calcium supplement. Post-op RNY's do not produce nearly the amount of stomach acid needed to process calcium carbonate (which is the form of calcium in all Tums products - as well as in the Viactiv chews)...JR

Denise, You are in luck! In the new WLSLifestyles Magazine, that just came in the mail yesterday, there is an ad for chewable calcium citrate lozenges. I cannot speak to them at all but worth checking out. The are by Bariatric Advantage and come in chocolate and mint. It says you can use a promotional code of 003 to get 15% off. The e-mail is www.bariatricadvantage.com or 1-800-898-6888. Good Chewing!!! Chris

I bought a bottle of Caltrate D chewables at Walmart. They are calcium citrate. The bottle was assorted flavors. I can't remember how much it cost but I know it was uner $10 for a pretty big bottle.

I use Caltrate 600 Plus Chewables. They has Vitamin D & Minerals in them. I don't mind the taste. They are cherry, orange and fruit punch flavored. I buy mine at Meijer so I am sure they are sold everywhere. They are 60 tablets per box. The box is orange/white with a sideways figure 8 ribbon on it. I take 2 per day. I hope this helps. To the two previous posters: Caltrate (despite the misleading name) is *not* calcium citrate. It is calcium carbonate - http://www.caltrate.com/products/caltrate_600_chew_label.asp <p> If you are taking Caltrate as a post-op RNY, you might as well be chewing on blackboard chalk. Some Chewable Calcium Citrate manufacturers: Bariatric Advantage (http://bariatricadvantage.com), Solaray (http://www.affordablesolaray.com), Twinlab (http://www.twinlab.com) and Rainbow Light (http://www.rainbowlight.com)...JR

check your local health food store. i found mine there, in liquid form. bluebonnet is the company. make sure you get at least 1000mg with vitamin D & magnesium (helps in absorbtion).... 2 tablespoons 2x's a day is all i have to stomach- not too bad..... it taste kinda gross! but hold your nose and chug. good luck, you may be able to order them online through the comapny, but shipping would be torture, the jars it comes in is kinda heavy, and the mess of shipping??? i dunno- but check a healthfood store- best bet! GNC never has anything, i stopped looking in there for stuff.
