Question:
Where can I find chewable calcium?

Hi there! I purchased some calcium citrate's from Vitalady and am having a rough time with them. They make me feel so full! I am now looking for a chewable calcium citrate and can't find anything. I have heard that twinlabs has one? Where can I find it? Also, the nurse at my doc's office said I coupld use Viactiv for the time being. I thought that was worthless?! Please help!    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on October 26, 2003)

I purchased a chewable Chocolate Calcium Citrate from BariatricAdvantage.com. They are very good and recommended by several doctors. The bottle says to chew 5 tables but my doctor says only 2 are needed daily. Hope this helps.

Bariatric Advantage also has a mint flavored lozenge that you suck on that tastes like a mint.

I buy my chewable calcium citrate from RGARDEN.COM. They are kinda big, but tolerable. They sort of taste like a sweet tart in the middle.

You can get the Twinlab Chewable Calcium Citrate at http://www.vitaglo.com or http://www.vitaminshoppe.com (or many other places). If you are looking for a retail store and you have a Vitamin Shoppe in your area, they should have it....JR

Hi there! I went through the same thing you are. You can buy the chewables at Vitamin Cottage. ALthough you have to chew 4 of them a day and they are HUGE sister! I did not like then and could not tolerate them. They let me return it and I bought liquid Calcium Citrate at Vitamin Cottage. The strawberry is disgusting, but the Blueberry is very doable, and I only need to take a T. in the morning and a T. before bed. All done, no chewing or swallowing those horse pills. Good Luck!

I was havning the same problem. I tried the liquid calcium, it's thick and brings tears to my eyes! I swear I stand in the kitchen stomping my feet trying not to hork it back up! Heard about Twinlabs and found some cheap prices on-line, but found Caltrate Chewable Calcium this weekend. 600 mg, only have to eat two a day. Cherry (I don't like cherry flavored and these aren't bad at all), orange and fruit punch. Kinda big but they chew and melt really quick. And I got them for $5.47 for 60, a 30 day supply. Cheaper than TwinLabs since you have to chew 4 a day (as I understand). Just remember to take more than two hours after your vitamin or they don't absorb as well. These tablets also have good quantities of zinc, copper and some others. Try WalMart, Rite Aid, K-Mart etc. in the vitamin aisle in the Caltrate section. Good luck!

I also take Caltrate 600 Plus Chewables and I love them!! I buy the assorted fruit flavors, and I get them at Wal-Mart for under $5/bt....a full months supply. Also, I take the Centrum Chewable multivitamin/multimineral suplement because they compliment the Caltrate...meaning, they can be taken together and one does not negate the other...very important!!! This is also bought at Waly-World..... and... I get my Vit B-12 there too..which is a little tiny pink pill that I chew up... all in all...I have one full meal just with my vit! lol Love and light, Lisa RNY 11/18/02 286/195/140

Caltrate is calcium carbonate....NOT calcium citrate. Please be very careful when reading and checking your labels. It is so important for us to get the proper supplements. I have found that www.vitacost.com had the best price per bottle on Twinlab's chewable calcium citrate and they also have a flat shipping rate.

The best one I have found so far is a calcium called "VIACTIV". They are a Soft Calcium Chew. My favorite is Caramel flavor. Tastes just like those Caramel Candys that you melt for candy apples. Two a day gives 1,000 mg. of calcium plus vitamin D & K. You can get them at any Pharmacy or at Wal-Mart or Sams Wholesale.

Re previous post: VIACTIVE IS CALCIUM CARBONATE, not calcium citrate. You MUST use citrate as the carbonate is almost certainly not absorbed well enough because we do not have adequate stomach acid to break it down.

I take Viactiv - it comes in great yummy flavors. It has 500mg calcium so 2 a day equals the amount we need daily.

I'm glad Lori mentioned that the Caltrate is NOT citrate! I asked the pharmasits at Walmart and was taken over to the counter to them. I asked them to look closely at the ingrediants and I can not take carbonate. Sure enough, it was carbonate. Dan... 2.5 years post op and still havent' been able to find a citrate that is chewable. :( I don't like mail order and I've gone to tons of stores and can't find anything.

Susan, I get chewable calcium citrate at Whole Foods Store. They are made by SunRay and I have used them for the past 7 months. I haven't located it anywhere else and I have looked. Whole Foods seems to keep a good supply. Ann in TX

When I bought my Flinstones vitamins at Wal-Mart the other day they had a free sample of chewable calcium. They were chocolate and they satisfied my sweet tooth in addition to giving me calcium. I think they are made by the people who make the Flintstones vitamins. I am going to look at Wal-Mart next time I am there and see if I can find them.
